I think it only measures temperature at the mounting point (out door temp.) not tank water temperature. Min/max temp. recording is a good function.

I think it does both...

There is clearly a tank temp and a room temp setting on the screen.

Something to keep in mind when I have my GH up. Wonder how hard it is to get it to talk to a PC?

They did not state it has probe or infrared sensor so I suspect it only measure air temp. Tank temp. can mean air temp. at the tank.

Cheers,
Long

Fair enough... but that's what the ultrasonic is for. Using ultrasound there are a couple of ways to measure temp remotely, with accuracy better than 0.1º even with pretty cheap equipment. It's only an assumption on my part but looking at the pics I'd hazard the US is directed down from the sensor while room temp is measured more conventionally - I don't think you can measure air temp with US the same way you do with liquids or solids - the US needs a reflector of some kind.

I measure my tank level and temperature with two sensors... my eyes... and my finger....

Occasionally I have to recalibrate my finger... I'm sometimes out by about 0.5 degrees...

What do you use to hold your eyes as you dip them in the tank? Image

Well, you compare it against a known temperature. With thermometers the most accurate measure is you shove it up an anus...

I think you've just lost some of my respect. Image

I actually found the alarm feature interesting, and the thing may be hackable. Can't get down to Jaycar for a few weeks but will eventually check it out. :)

If you want to transmit stuff that that unit doesnt do it might be better to build it from scratch...
