A question have you got any photo/drawing of the set-up you are looking at..

8500lt Fish tank with about 4000lts of filtration/growbed[Going of Lite fish load]


A few Questions..
- Can not eliminate the need to lift Water 6ft..?

Have you decided on your Pump.. It sounds Like you might be Looking at a Sequence 4200[SEQ12000- 93w] if that is the pump you are going to use it is a very Good Pump..
I'm looking at some thing Very Similiar..

Having done some research on this subject I'll throw my 2 cents worth into the pile. If you have 2200 gal of water and you have an outlet at the bottom of the tank you should be able to easily generate 3kw at least by utilizing a micro-hydro turbine with a "Pelton" wheel design. I'll post a couple links I've found to help you with your calculations. Consider into your equation that the Pelton wheel design is rated at 90% efficiency.

You could alternately create enough "head" on the outflow of a system if you had a large enough collector pipe common to your GB's and putting that collected mass of water through a turbine before pumping it out of the sump, provided you still had a flow 2800gph in a 6inch pipe with a 2 ft drop over its length of roughly 50ft. Using a large enough nozzle at your turbine to not interfere with your overall flow rate is the key.
