Hey all just wondering if any electricians out there are willing to take on an apprentice (me) . I'm 24 and have four weeks left of my electrical pre apprenticeship . I'm keen to learn and I work hard! Cheers

if your interested we may be looking for a new apprentice, the boss keeps talking about it. its Automotive electrical though, much more complicated i think, (dad's a 240v sparky so i think i can say that with some credibility) and only to someone with the right attitude

That depends entirely on what you are doing :P

Good luck EAGLEYE.

I will say this though, going to a place like EGT is likely to give you a large amount of experience in a wide variety of electrical positions. Although there is a good chance you would have to work away a bit.

cheers for the luck rsevs3 ,
ive done some varied work already which is awesome :D
i do some volunteer work 1 day a week with a company now that does house bashing , commercial and parks(even big pumps ) > they are contracted to a couple of councils . unfortunatly they have enough staff on atm so unless they score a big contract they are unlikely to hire me

i have also TA'd for the electrical guys at my old foundry where i used to work . that was what really got me intrested in electrical work . working on a 22k furnace was very interesting :headbang:

I did some work on what i suppose would be an induction furnace that was quite interesting. They were used to make specialty alloys for jet engines.

If you are wanting to get into control systems from what i have seen you should be prepared to work away to see the interesting stuff. Having made the mistake myself, you really need to be in construction/commissioning or maybe maintenance side to deal with the big systems at any involved level. Right now in my maintenance role we dont even get to touch the control side. It is all contracted out.

There is a lot of construction work going on in Perth at the moment, I'm sure some of the larger electrical installation companies will be looking for apprentices for commercial construction jobs (apartments/offices/shops/etc.)

That would put you on a building site pulling cables though. But if you show a lot of initiative they will keep you on and give you more responsibility in your final year.

As mentioned above if you want to get into the instrumentation/ control type areas you would most likely be working on a mine site somewhere away from Perth.

I would try and stay away from house bashing though, you will likely get very bored very fast.
