Saw this the other day on Craigslist http://mohave.craigslist.org/grd/2422461259.html $800 You have got to be kidding me. "My system is twice as big as the competition and a quarter of the price." So someone is selling a 60 gallon FT with a 40 gallon GB for $3200 ? Wow! I gotta find me some suckers to sell stuff to. "I hand build my system to spec" What spec? "all you have to do is add water here and there, add fish, and grow medium(listed bellow) and pick veggies and eat fish." and test the water, and feed the fish, and, and, and..... "Then bring your system indoors and grow year round" 120 gallons of water is only 960 pounds, plus the framework, and the 80 gallons of rock. Just pick it right up and carry it into the house. I recognized the background in the pic as the hydro shop that just opened last month. I went down to talk to him about his system. He says his sons' plants just grow like crazy in it. 2 Koi are the nutrient source. Figured it wasn't stocked very heavy with that little filtration. So how are you supposed to harvest fish when you only have 2 ????? Just another scammer trying to make a fast buck off the latest craze. Think I'll have to call him out on CL. |

Yeah there is a guy like that in my area too. He was charging 4 - 8 dollars for tilapia fingerlings... Can't imagine anyone falling for that one. http://orangecounty.craigslist.org/grd/2448619512.html Doubt all (if any) of the pictured systems are his. |

Quote: Problem is there is not enough information online to get started with confidence. Next, nobody has ever seen a system up and running. That is too funny!! $800 and he doesn't even include grow media Sted |

I presume the quote is from the guys website? There was enough info here alone 5 years ago when I started let alone all the extra that has been added since. |

Unfortunately there's a LOT of spin out there at the moment... Annoys the hell out of me that people make outrageous claims for the sake of trying to make a $. Some people think that aquaponics could be a good way to make money, a good business idea, and good to try and get in early while the industry is still small to make some money out of it.. Others, an extremely limited number of people you can probably count on one hand, think that aquaponics is great, and having some form of business involving aquaponics is a side benefit.. |

i'd love to see open source builds. We basically have that, but it would be cool to have 2 or 3 inexpensive setups that anyone can build with diagrams and everything. Getting started does take tons of learning and lots of mistakes (though we make them even though we know what we're doing is wrong). Open Source Aquaponics, systems, information, etc. |

There's a fair bit out there already Silkom, try here: http://www.backyardaquaponics.com/infor ... links.html There's a few download of complete system plans with step by step instructions including Travis Hugheys barrelponics, and we will have the IBC manual out in the next few weeks with step by step instructions parts lists etc.. |
