For those that don't already know, around lunch time a 6.3 mag earthquake struck the centre of Christchurch NZ...

I've been on the phone most of the afternoon chasing up friends.... most of whom are OK... but several who work in the city haven't been heard from...

Reports say that the centre of the city has basically collapsed... and that the death toll already stands at 100+...

Sadly it is expected to go much higher... as, being lunchtime, the city was full...

Spare a thought, and for those of faith... a prayer...

Power, water, gas... all cut to the city...

It's just coming on dark... and it's started to rain... temp has fallen significantly...

It's going to be a long night for any surviviors... and those that attemp to rescue them...

Been online, via skype (phones in chaos), to my mum & sister (safe, both on the north island)... and they've contacted most people I know via skype and text messages ...

Concerns about Julian & Meg, a couple of friends that work in the city... unconfirmed report Meg is injured, but alive... no word on Julian that works in one of the insurance/financial buildings that has collapsed...

This tragedy could impact on Australians as well... apparantly there's about 300-400 "neurological" doctors from Australia attending a conference in Christchurch...

Very tragic news indeed. Some of the images are really quite shocking, unfortunately I feel the toll will rise it just looks so bad.

My thoughts are with the people of christchurch.
