Post subject:  Free Domain Forums.

I am a member of many Forums not only AP. But today I received an email from one of the sites, stating:

Hi, This is to let you know about a new Members Group we have created especially for "Do It Yourself" enthusiasts. The new Membership Group is a paid subscription. This section contains information about building your own Aquaponics system from recycled materials, or new tanks and grow beds that you are going to connect together into a system of your own design. If you need assistance to build your own in the form of advices and plans then you may wish to join the Aquaponics DIY Group by subscribing. The very modest investment of $12.50 per quarter allows you unlimited access to the files and articles that apply particularly to DIY Aquaponics.

What $50 a year for information that "We" have provided freely.

My understanding is that the information that is posted on "Forums" is public domain information, people give their information freely in that we all learn from each other. God knows how many people have benefited from Affnan's info.

Just tell me to shut up if you think I'm barking up the wrong tree.

Another e-marketing scam... by lazy arsed bastards that just wont to skim money from the system so that they dont' actually have to get of their fat arses and actually do some real productive work...

Is this the DIY Aquaponics site??

just email them back telling them that the DIY aquaponicists of the world have been freely sharing such information for years before their "life time sucessful entrepenaural" affliate marketing scams ever heard of the idea...

And to *frack* off and get a real job... parasites...

I've been through some of this before, at least the legal aspect. Information people post on a forum remains the property of the person who posts it, basically when you type something or post a picture it still remains the property of the person who put it there.

Thats the legal view anyway, well actually, it seems the legal answer is always that it's up to a judge to decide if an action is illegal.
But that's probably getting off the track. I guess it really depends on the information that is being provided in the "paid section". If it's just part of the forum, things that others have posted, thats bad. If it's a separate thing with small instruction manuals that have been put together by someone, then I guess they have a right to charge for them, thats how many of us get by, make product, sell product.

I think with with many simple DIY things, the information is pretty freely available already around the internet so it's probably not going to be an easy way to try and make money. Bit hard to judge without seeing the product..

I paid and downloaded the "aquaponics4you" manual, so I know how crap that is...

Hi John,

I'm surprised that you did not receive the same email from Brisbane.

Brother fwd it onto me, then I received another 2 from the originator.

This is an official email from a prominant AP site. Yes I suppose you could view it as a scam,

Maybe the author is just testing the water :dontknow: But it certainly doesn't rub with me. :upset:

Hey Milne,
You didn't say bad things about the originator of this "scam" when you visited him at North Maclean earlier in the piece!

Murray is just selling a set of instructions for an IBC system that they have built and operated for the last 12 months, surely you saw it on your visit? as well as the Bathtub system that used to be available for free.

I wont be subscribing, because of the advice and experience so generously shared by all AP'ers, including Murray, over the past couple of years, I know how to make a system from IBC's and bits and pieces, as I'm sure many of you can. But there are some people, starters, tyre kickers and toe in water testers who don't have a practical bone in their body, (my wife is one of them, especially when it comes to actual construction and plumbing etc,) who can gain quick and practical knowledge of how to DIY in one place, without having to trawl through mountains of (great) information to glean what is required to start a system.
The e-mail was only sent to those of us who suscribe to Murray's Blog and wish to receive that information, so it is not unsolicited material, nor is it misleading or fraudulent.
Murray is not a "fly-by-night" merchant and runs a viable business in supplying AP equipment, systems and componentry, as does Joel in WA (plus both of their distributors), and both are trying to earn a living from it!! and employ others.
I'm sure Joel charges a fee for attending his BYAP workshops? It's the same thing isn't it? Dissemination of experienced information is worth every cent.
I was always of the belief that "free advice was normally worth what it cost!" (especially about your Golf swing or Bowls delivery! :)

So, don't be too quick to jump in feet first assuming that anyone else offering AP advice is a Snake Oil salesman, you only do yourself a dis-service in the credibility stakes.
Remember, we are all team players, as long as you do it my way!

Cheers IanK

Well selling an instruction manual is a little different than subscribing to a forum "group" for information that is freely available...

So why not just advertise the DVD... which I'm sure he does...

I too got the email from Murray about his DIY cd. I was just a sales pitch for the dvd, and nothing more that I can see and nothing wrong with that. No mention of a forum etc, so I dont think the OP is talking about Murrays email.
