I recently advertised my Motor bike on gumtree and got an sms from "Summy" in Malaysia saying he wanted to buy my bike immediately , sight unseen and the asking price ($17500) was fine.

He would organise a shipping agent to pick up the bike no problem . He really needed the bike urgently and would like to conclude the transaction asap.

Unfortunately he works offshore and would not be able to get to his bank to send me a wire transfer so we would have to use Paypal . All I had to do was click on the "Paypal" link he sent me and it would all be done :crazy3: ............. Yeh right

Anyway I emailed him back saying that I had no knowledge of Paypal but guess what , great news Summy , my company is sending me to Malaysia on business so we could meet up and conclude our transaction in person

Guess what , Summy did not get back to me . :geek:

When you log in to Craigslist I think for cars for sale there is a huge warning that says never ever to use Western Union because that is how scammers steal your money. They also say something about never doing wire transfers for the same reason. Their info is pretty helpful. DW got pretty good at recognizing scammers on the Internet, actually talked at length for awhile with a guy in Africa who was initially trying to scam but she recognized the profile picture as one that was commonly used by scammers.

My sister got that one Milne and I told her it was a spammer. She rang them back and she said "my brother says you are spammers", he said "yes we are. I am a Muslim and cannot tell a lie, but some people do what we say" and he hung up. LOL

I have had a couple of these calls. Unfortunately for them I work in IT.

He kept telling me that Windows has told them I have a virus.

I told him I dont use Windows and gave him the name of another operating system - all he could do was umm and arr and hang up.

Yeah the buggers are getting cheakier and cheakier all the time, getting pretty hard to tell spam and dodgy emails sometimes ...

I haven't had that call myself, heard of it though.... Reminds me of the Irish computer virus..

Quote:
Dear Receiver,

You have just received an Irish virus. Since we are not so technologically advanced in Ireland, this is a MANUAL virus. Please delete all the files on your hard disk yourself and send this mail to everyone you know. That'd be grand.

Tanx.

I frequently get calls about "there is a with your credit account", but they never say who they're trying to reach (there are 3 adults in this house), or which credit account they're talking about.

It reminds me of this:
