Damned choocks i bought on the weekend! came home from work at 9pm tonight and checked on them. One was roosted at chest height on my HPM timer that supplies power to my AP. Laughed and thought of getting a picture until i realised that the plug was hanging out! Ran through the backyard armed with a torch, tommies ok, all other plants ok. Check fish tank, one dead jade. Plug must have "come out" just on dusk when the stupid bird tried to roost on it. Atleast plants were ok as sun had gone down and F&D cycle stopped at 50% fill. I guess its my fault for running out of time on sunday, was mean to put in a few perches for them. |

thats ok,. i can see the funny side of it! I had to nearly bash it to get it to let go of the HPM! One was over the neigbours fence after day one. its a full height bloody fence! Can anyone give good instructions on how to clip their wings, as i really haven't got the tiome to put a mesh "roof" over the 2x4 meter run |

Did you give the dead fish to the chook? If so this may encourage it to sabotage the system for regular fishy treats! probably want to discourage that eh? (jaymie is peeing herself at the moment, she is reading this over the shoulder!) |

okay Step One catch the little SOB Step 2 spread ONE wing out Step 3 Cut the long feathers back to the point where the short featers end NO FURTHER Step 4, watch the chook try and clear the fence now! |

cool, will attempt tomorrow. Is it true that once you've done it they get used to the fact that they can't clear fences and therefore stop trying, meaning that you only have to clip them once or twice? Or is that that just a bullshit story to keep people like me happy? PS so you only have to do it to ONE wing? |

Tip no.1 - only clip one wing, throws them off balance if they try to fly Tip no.2 - use ordinary scissors and cut the feathers short Tip no.3 - if tip 2 fails use chainsaw on wing Tip no.4 - if tip 3 fails use chainsaw on chook's neck |

ROFL LES, Yep Steve, only do one wing, otherwise they will be still able to fly (albeit with reduced speed LOL) Yep, from my experience, they do forget they can fly, a couple of clips is all they need. Mind you if they found a nice place in your neighbours yard to lay their eggs, good luck keeping them in! |

Reminds me of the night I came to find water everywhere and not one lettuce remaining. I had a syphon failure causing the growbed to overflow, the chooks had found my Darwin Lettuce, and I had an egg in another grow bed. The chooks are now sin-binned for most of the day when not supervised. I like Chicken Tonight, Chicken Tonight. |
