Someone gave us a copy of a brochure that has been produced by a guy in W.A. that has a pump shop, he's started selling AP systems and components evidently and we know who he is because he's bought a couple of things from us in the past, come into the shop at least once, and I had a very long conversation with him a few months back.

Anyway, lets have a little look at the brochure, generally the blue bits are the brochure....

I've covered his business name, but many people may recognise these pics on the front, I'm pretty sure they belong to the guy from access aquaponics who released an AP e-guide a while back.. (remember the broccoli growing out the tail of the fish)

OK, how about a few we know about for sure... I guess he bought the third edition of our magazine, because here's page 19 of the BYAP mag compared with his brochure. Though he really picked a bad example if you read our caption under the original.

What about page 17, our trial by media article, all the pics of media have been copied, and yes you can match them up when you look closely..

And last one...

At least in this one, even though it's a blatant copy of the original graphic that Dave designed up for us, At least they have changed it a little bit, even if it's just a redraw, at least it's a bit different.. The text is all word for word from the graphic Dave designed

Must make ya mad when its happening next door , so to speak. Shouldnt be hard to get some pics yourself, if you actually have a system up and running that is.

Because it's far easier to rip something off for those that are trying to make a quick $ and lets face it, these muppets stuff it up for those that have the passion to actually go out and try something a bit different.
I feel for the poor bastids that get ripped by these people and then eventually find out whats actually happening and end up at the proper place for the correct answers.

:bootyshake: TO MUPPETS

P.S. Why would you have a picture of a snail in your veggies to promote aquaponics :dontknow:

Annoys me that im currently spending Big $$$ on images, artwork and logos for my own business and these other rouges just take the easy way out and cheat there way through business to try keep overheads down and allow them to undercut who they have already ripped off.

wouldnt wana find me in a dark ally!!!! :upset:

Sounds like it is happening quite a bit in the AP world.
I guess because it is starting to gain notice everyone wants to jump on the bandwagon and well some want to take the easy way out.
Its crap that they put out those sh***y little brochures to make money, especially when it is someone elses hard work.
If it were my work that was being copied I would be seeking legal advice, say legal aid to start with.
I would also contact the press to alert them that this sort of thing is going on and that it has the potential to damage the image of a flegling industry and damaging peoples livlihoods.
Its good that you alert us to this EB but posting it on here is not going to make one little bit of difference to the idiots who rip off your hard work and years of reaserch. They have no consience and will keep doing it until you act and try and stop them.
I am sure there people out there with more legal knowlege than me who would fight the fight with you.
I do have some legal contacts that may be able to help you out if you like.
I have your number and can call you to chat about it if you like.
Kind regards, Skipd.

Well maybe a good way to resolve this is friendly phone to say that u are aware that this happening. The guy might actually do something.

OR...since they have so much interest with aquaponics a visit by Mario and Tony with the concrete reeboks, so they can "Sleep with the fishes"

:laughing3: :laughing3:

(I am of course joking as I do not condone dumping muppets with concrete shoes into our oceans....just think of the pollution it would cause  )

Freindly phone call be buggered...

A terse "cease and desist"... destroy all copies of "copyrighted" material immediately... or face court action...

And yep... got more than one bloke jumping in on my turf as well...

Maybe the real AP community can spread the word to not deal with folks until they've seen their systems in person. So many of these poseurs are using clip art because they don't have anything of their own running that is worth a damn.

New term: "Clip Art Consultants"

I think that if each of your photos was captioned with which customer's system it was from and the whole back page was testimonials from a dozen different people then it would be obvious you're the real deal.

Just send them a bill for the use of the photos. And after 7 days send them a summons.

Post subject:  Re: Copyright

I agree with Rupe and Duff here because it just shouldnt happen. I also agree with Gnash but that would only happen in a just world

I agree with above, send them a bill for the use of phot's and artwork and then follow with legal action. Also insist on acknowedgement of photo's in their publication.

Post subject:  Re: Copyright

If a phone call fails, send a cease and desist letter. Especially for the photos. The other stuff may have been changed enough to allow it to be OK (ie, theres only so many ways to draw up an aquaponics lifecycle diagram), but you definately own the copyright on your photos.

either that or invoice them for use of photos

# of photos x number of brochures x $50 = A big number.

see what happens.
