Got a thing in the mail today talking about water restrictions, Ponds - Not To be Filled or have water replaced/Topped up. Now i know that We all on here know that its far more sustainable to run ap than any other form of vegtable gardening, but my neighbor stuck his head over the fence and had a bit of a go at me, cos he has obviously been watching my system and what go's on. Basicly he told me if he ssee's me using town water he will inform Authorities etc.... Now i use my rain water tank, and also during summer will have my Evap Aircon Topping up my system if my tank emptys. i explained all this and basicly told him to keep his nose over the other side of the fence unless he wants me to squirt him just wondering if anyone else has come across problems with this sort of thing or if there are any Laws Actually Pointing out Restrictions or Allowing the use of Aquaponics systems. |

There is a simple solution to your problem... I am sure they cannot stop people from hand watering their vege patch. So just water your growbeds instead... You are not topping up your ponds but just watering your garden beds. You cannot stop the water from ending up in your pond. And finally if you get into trouble with your council/authority, tell them to speak to the Wyndham City Council who are obviously years ahead of your council. I believe Mark who has an AP system there won the sustainable garden competition. Nowadays I don't believe you can win such a competition if you don't use water wisely. But I think you should be fine, if you stick to watering your growbeds. |

Yeah is there anything saying that you can't fill your water tank with your hose? Then from the water tank to the AP system later.. So what do they say about filling swimming pools? Do they ban people from filling them? Until they do I would pay no attention to what they say... But thats just me... |

Yep no pools, no fountains. I don't think I will need to use town water and if I do I'll water the beds. But yeah..., just wondering about the actual law, might tingle the council tomorrow and just see... |

I am guessing the neighbour wont be getting any ap produce coming over the fence, unless its an overipe tomato or a dead fish with a suitable gesture

look up your water authorities website and check for exemptions, W.A doesn't have that kind of restriction yet but I am forever finding ways around them by working with these exemptions, It may be up to someone in AP industry over there to speak up to them and say something about AP sustainability if there is nothing imposed yet. |

And if you have to ring council don't give them a real name. If they are like our council they will make up a reason to pain in your a_s. PS turn there sprinkler on every morning after they leave for work. You can tell council about him then.

Answer: you don't have a "pond" you have a "Fish Tank", ponds are ornamental. |

Who cares what your neighbour thinks. You are gardenning and providing food using the most water efficient method available in the world today. Some people just need to get with the program, lead by example and 'love thy neighbour." He may come around one day, maybe not if he is sticking his nose over your fence. Try and be nice anyway:) Some times I wish we could pick our neighbours

I agree with Faye... just be nice it shits them more than being nasty anyway, and use the water in the times you are allowed to water your dirt garden, find out from the council anyway, might educate someone

Just top up your rainwater tank at night with the town water if you run short. You want the town water to off gas the chlorine anyway, before putting it in your system. We are getting new neighbours soon, and I hope they are cool
