I think it may have been a story about the high-rise farming, thats what I saw at least.. :dontknow:

Just hope they dont trivialise it like those shows do with most things

I really don't understand how they think growing leafy greens under lights in a custom built high rise building is going to be the answer to our food production. Roll on the community gardens, community supported agriculture, roof top gardens, balcony gardens, and backyard/front yard food production.

Encourage people to grow on vacant land throughout our cities, there's a lot of land which is wasted and could easily be used to grow food locally.

It takes a bit of effort to use the front yard, so much simpler to keep it the same as every other yard in the street. But hey, better to be a trend setter rather than a sheep... :headbang:

mmm i have garlic and pumpkins in my front yard. Along with citrus and blue berries.

I imagine if the beds and tanks are concealed front yards would be very usefull and appealing to many

I've put in some raised corrugated iron garden beds out the front with pawpaws, bananas, pepino, sweetpotato, etc, etc... Also lots of fruit trees out the front, doesn't look too bad if I mow the rampant grass, ultimately I want to mulch everything so there is no grass...

I look at my roof every day wondering how I can put a few gb's up there.... And a pump that will pump a 4mt head haha

But I agree get community gardens educate people and be as self sufficient as possible if every 2nd person even done their bit we would be heaps better!!!

Maybe you need a sheep in your front yard eb??? Maybe it will be a trend setter and the sheep will get sheep so to speak haha

**** I confused myself there if anyone else is confused

Yes, if everyone grew something in the space that they have, we wouldn't have such stress about other food products.

But then again we have a lot of "Acquaintances" with kids and you should see what they dish up every night... packaged shit deep fried, oven baked... no fresh produce, no fresh meat... when quizzed "How do you get your 5 childeren to eat there veggies etc" the answer is very simple... theres no alternative....

we treat the kids to Take out weekly and there is the occasional Packaged ravioli night or pies and pasties.... but these kids that we see eat nothing but.... cant be good for A; their health or B; there education of sustainability where does food come from??? the answer is not the freezer!!!!! or birds eye!

i admit schools are getting better with education of plants and veggies, sustainability and resource saving, how ever they still go home to Pre Cooked packaged food, more needs to be done !

sorry about the rant :P

Yep, it's the parents now a days isn't it.... I think Jaymie Oliver once said something along the lines of "some parents should be charged with attempted manslaughter because what they feed their children is killing them."

Ahh concrete grass...I work in a "Concrete jungle" - there's hardly a tree in the place. It's horrible on the eye.
