Did anyone see the Weekend Australian Magazine yesterday? There is an article about rising fuel costs and stories of how different people are preparing for the upcomong fuel crisis. There's a little story about a Melbournian named David Clarke who has built himself an AP system in his backyard. Did anyone see this? David are you in here? A little bit of publicity for AP. |

There are at least two Davids in our happy Aquaponic band. I am the one who the article mentions. As a result of that article I got email from two people who want to set up Aquaponics systems. Cheers, David C. |

The article stretches across 7 pages (it was a pretty major piece).... and I don't have a scanner. Would you settle for a summary? David C. |

It is in the Weekend Australian Magazine. Colour pictures and lots of words - sadly, only a few about Aquaponics. Mostly it is interviews with lots of people who are worried about Peak Oil and other stuff. The journalist interviewed Scientists, Engineers (many of them in the energy industry), Computer Programmers, PhDs, etc. He wanted to suggest that they aren't all nut-cases, so he chose lots of people with multiple degrees, and conservative jobs. They are broken into 2 groups: 1. End-of-the-world, Mad Max scenario people. The solutions have already been costed. They are going to cost trillions of US dollars. An attempt could cripple the world. Failure to attempt it might also cripple the world.... hence guys with PhDs turn into Mad Max believers. 2. People like me, who think that there are tough times ahead (really tough - Great Depression tough, Fall-of-the-Soviet-Union tough), but we can pull through if we tackle the problems one at a time, as a community. Spend the money and find ways to live with the economic consequences. Aquaponics is a relatively cheap, ecologically friendly, low water usage, food producing technology - it may be part of the socially-responsible solution. David C. |

I have the text of the article if anyone wants it. The Australian newspaper owns the copyright, so I am not going to post it - PM me if you want it. |
