i was thinking that i could do something for the environment by harvesting fresh road kill passing it through a mincer and feeding it to fish. Has anyone tried it?

Blue fin, i think some one has suggested this before..........a few questions for you;

1) do you have a partner?

2) do you want to keep your partner?

I have to tell this story, even though Heather hates it when I do, she reckons I embelish it, what a load of.....

Anyway, FIL and MIL used to live in Streaky Bay, about 7 hours from Adelaide on the West cosrt. One night, they're driving home, and they clean up a rabbit. SPLAT!
FIL gets out, that's too good to waste, pops poor bunny in the back of the wagon. Drvies home. Gets home, gets PB out of the back, buries him under some pea straw in the back yard so the jack russel won't get it, then goes to bed :shock: after taking a mental note that a) it was a clean kill and b) it didn't have mixy

First time I'm hearing this story, I'm thinking, what the? do you people not have bins? :lol: Needless to say, I was brought up in a shoe wearing, meat eating, lawn growing non earth family, so I'm starting to question my then GF's heritage :shock:

Anyway.

A couple of days later, FIL and MIL get peckish, FIL says, I know luv, it's rabbit stew for lunch! Goes and digs up PB, brushes off the slaters, whips the skin off and cooks im up :shock: :lol:

Well, even though they are a weird mob, I still married her and I'm getting weirder by the day. For crying out loud, I'm growing vegies from fish poo in gravel, I must have lost the plot completely :lol:

Moral of the story? Should there be one? Of course, every story has one :lol: If it's good enough for my inlaws, it must be good enough for the fish. Give it a go, what's the worst that can happen? :shock:

Yeah... Meat is always best when left for a few days. When you slaughter your own, you hang it and leave it for a few days, and in the old days they used to store meat in a meat safe. Basdically just a tin box to keep the flies off, with lots of holes in it for ventilation..

Have you ever tried to cook up a steak that is just starting to go off, one that is just starting to get that "off" smell to it... Deluxe.... Melt in your mouth, tender, beautiful meat... :D

I've heard of people doing that with haunches of venison, burying them to develop flavour... what is that flavour??? :shock: lol
clearly they're still around to tell the story so it can't have been detrimental and they obviously have a sense of humour if they're telling people about it - were you having lunch when you first heard this story? :)

Blue Fin, around here road kill (wallabies, roo's, rabbits, the odd deer) get gathered up and used as dog food, if you decide to go ahead i would be interested in how it went with the actual preparation :)

Andi

Andi, it was 99% chance that we were eating when the story was told, ewe pretty much get together it's over a meal.

Nothing really surprises me anymore, FIL used to breed guinea pigs and rabbits to eat. When I first heard that, I seriously thought about changing my long term relationship structure
