Thought I'd create a thread for those who have android phones so that you can share your favourite apps, as I know at least one person on here has a new phone and was asking..

1. First app I'd install is called - 3G watchdog
http://www.androlib.com/android.applica ... g-zzA.aspx

This keeps track of your data usage and you can set at what level you want it to alert you in relation to your data allowance on your phone plan. This way you should get no ugly excess data bills.

Whats that ugly thing above? A barcode.

2. Now you want Barcode Scanner so that you can just scan links (like above), and scan bar codes of every day products just for fun. We scanned the easy aquaponics book the other day, it came up with a pic of the book and information about all about it, where to buy it etc.

Now you've downloaded that I don't need to give links anymore, you just start up "barcode scanner" hold the phone up to the computer screen so that you can see the square barcodes and away you go.

3. Next would probably be Appbrain, appbrain is much better than the standard "Market" that comes with android it synchs with the appbrain website so you can search for apps on the website and then install them from there without even touching your phone. Uses your gmail/google account details, as do many things seeing google released android.

4. Google sky map... What can you say, pretty bloody amazing, find constellations, stars and planets live. want to know the name of a star in the sky? Just point your phone at it.

5. Layar - Augmented reality - freaky stuff...

6. Google translate - How cool is this, speak into your phone, wait a second or two, then hear the translation back in any one of 50 different languages. Instant translations....

7. Aussie weather radar - Only useful for Australians, gets the latest radar images directly from BOM so that you can instantly see where it's raining near you and whether you're likely to get wet... Hmmm, can;t find the barcode at the moment, but well worth doing a quick search in market.

Soo much more but I have to stop there for now......

Anyone else have android? Got a favourite app?

What, does the skymap actually work? Or does it just pretend, surely a phone cant compute enough data to decide what star it is pointed at?

I'd like an ap that would let me post photo's to a forum from my phone....... :support:

It could simply transmit data to a google server for calculation - I find it more hard to believe that the GPS and other sensors are acurate enough to know which way it is pointing within a few degrees.

There was a thread a few days ago that listed an app for reading the forums...EB can point you at it.

Oh yes it can...... :D

works on gps, compass and elevation. Kind of cool coz you can even look in the day time where starts are that you can;t even see coz the sky is too bright.

An App to post photos? I read the other day that they are planning a new release soon I think, with a bit of luck it will fix it, otherwise it's still down to me updating the forum, which sends shivers down my spine..

Dunno why that barcode for Layar didn't work, but if you do a quick search in market or appbrain you can find it quickly.

make sure your not leaving your wifi and mobile data on all the time, it chews through the battery.... Theres a little widget you can put on one of your screens to turn them on and off easily. you can also set the screen brightness down a notch to save battery. When you don't play with it, it lasts for a long time, but when you play with things you need to be charging a bit..
