Wow!! Shoulda been here, waiting for news to filter through, the Superpit was closed down, including the lookout. The pit wall has moved about two inches away from the lookout, making big cracks in the ground.

4.8 to 5.2 magnitude, around 30km NNE of Kal, caused a fair bit of damage to buildings in Boulder. Some facades have collapsed on older buildings.

There has been an earth tremor in the Western Australian Goldfields city of Kalgoorlie-Boulder.

The tremor was felt just after 08:00 am.

One resident in Kambalda, Bernadette says the floors and the walls shook and she ran to get her baby out of its cot and her husband leapt up from the couch so they could shelter beneath door frames.

Another resident in Boulder says the china cabinet came loose from the walls.

One resident says the Boulder Central School is being evacuated.

ABC local radio is reporting that workers from Kalgoorlie's superpit have also been evacuated.

The scale of the tremor is not yet known but there are reports of damage in Boulder.

I had to google the superpit...a gold mine. Are the lookouts for visitors - or part of the operation?

earthquakes are fun...unless you dont trust your building

we just had that 6.2 on Easter...not to far way from me. we loved the one minute of rolling earth and water jumping out of fish tanks...1st time my whole family experienced one together...we were all high-fiveing each other...were weird

i think it would be a different story down there after looking at the pics

but fell lucky, down just a little south of me; alot of Mexicali collapsed and 2 people died

there only fun becuase i remeber the
6.9loma-prieta(S.F. world series)
7.3 Landers
7.0 big bear
7.2 cape mendocino
6.5 san simeon
7.1 heckter mines
and the 6.2 Easter-baja Quake
so welcome to the club...

hey at least earthquakes dont come with bad weather :thumbright:

ps my house is on the foot hill of the San Andreas Fault...that thing is just about to jump to...

Lost 8 fish in the earthquake, the percussion must have shocked them or something :upset:

Also caused a small leak where the fitting comes out of the tank.
