Post subject:  New Free Australian Music Download Site

Cam across this the other day on the morning news, an Australian Music Download Site, not peer to peer, that offers free downloads for viewing Ads, mainly banner ads, after registering you update you profile by selecting a list of favorite things, I.E Travel, Food, Books, Music, Sport etc, you choose up to 5 in each category then you will receive ads from things relating to your favorites, basically free music for watching ads your interested in, at this stage you register your interest and update profile and you can preview songs, the site is a tad slow at the moment, so when updating your profile clicking on a selection can take a couple of seconds, the site is in Beta at the moment and can be found here https://www.guvera.com

I know there will be some negative responses (Rupe :-P ) but I don't really care, just letting you know it's there, I remember a year or so ago that an American company Qtrax tried similar which I also signed up for, don't know what happened with them but when they got started I tried downloading at got message For US Residents only, maybe our US correspondents can let us know if they are still around.

The biggest problem for Guvera is getting the support from advertisers, when you pay $1 -$2 for a download at ITunes and Bigpond for example they would have to generate a lot of revenue to pay the artists the same amount in royalties, no doubt the big boys will also be a thorn in their side, most songs I searched for where on the site, search engine was basic but didn't get into advanced search, will it work :dontknow: but worth signing up for a try, they may get going and fade after a short time, but at least you can download some music legally for free whilst they are around

I don't have a problem with sites/services... that pay artists royalties Nocky... but whatever means...

Got no idea how the site is going to calculate and pay individual royalties... and actually make the money neccessary to survive... unless advertisers see some value in the service and continue to subscribe...

But it might be attractively priced...

I'm sure that the $1 pay/track model of "itunes" and "bigpond".... etc... only contains a small proportionate royalty component...

No worries OBO, yes rupe the royalties out of $1 probably wouldn't be a lot, but still Guvera has to get the Advertising support, I guess to get that then they need member interest, I certainly don't mind viewing ads in exchange for something I want, I have 2 newspapers emailed every day, both suppliers run ads in exchange for a free paper, still can't see if qtrax is still alive

Just got my beta login Nocky, songs are at 256k, which is great quality, they download at a super fast speed, and there is no DRM on the music. Freakin awesome....wonder how long it lasts though.

Wouldn't mind looking at it, but I refuse to supply my details to any site before they will even give you any idea about what they are and what they provide etc... Oh well, they probably wouldn't have much of the music I like anyway... Good concept though..

The basic idea might be ok but I am surprised at how undeveloped and poor quality the website is if they are serious about making it work. Whirlpool posters seem to think is is an investment scam to make the directors rich before it collapses. Would be a pity if they are right.
