Hey guys. I've just been informed that in 4 hours I will be in Wollongong. Then to Port Kembla. Are there any aquaponicans in the area who'd like to catch up for a drink and maybe a bite to eat? |

Kuda, I'm in Albion Park Rail but my aquaponics isn't looking that great at the moment. I do have a lot of fish though. You're more than welcome to come round and have a sticky beak. |

Saw Geoff this arvo, He has SOO many fish! Gotta convert all those fish tanks to AP thought Geoff, then you'd be amongst Australia's biggest and broadest variety keeping Aquaponicists! Keep up the good work, it looks great, and thos yabbies looked so yum! I also had Dinner with Roz, at a nice boat club. We had a seafood platter that was quite nice. His system, although I thought I'd seen it all from the extensive photos, still held some surprises. The terracing with the new beds will look great when you've finished it. And don't forget to send me some specs on that solar heater. I was surprised to find rupe on a standard house block, and not 1 - 1.5 acres, as his photos led me to believe. All that carefully planned stuff you see is packed very neatly about his place. Anyhow, it's late and I have to be up early in the morning. |

Thanks for the kind words Kuda. It's good to meet people with similar interests and get their idea's on things. I'll certainly be looking to plumb my inside tanks to grow beds in the near to hopefully not so distant future. First thing is to streamline the current setup and cut the energy cost...as was mentioned. I cooked some of the yabbies this evening and my mate reckons the claws were better than mud crab! I thought the same....but good to get a second opinion! Anytime your in town mate, feel free to call in. Cheers... |

Hey Geoff, whats the best way of keeping the yabbies? I am going to have a spare IBC that could house some, but only if it's worthwhile. |

I didn't grow these guys OBO, bought them from a small aquaculture farm close by. $30 for ten. I do keep yabbies, however they are all young (about two months old) and the biggest would be an inch and a half. I keep them in various sized tanks with some in an ibc with no filtration or aeration. They are growing quite slowly although not too bad considering I never feed them. Lots and lots of PVC pipe and shade cloth in the tank to give them plenty of places to hide when they moult. The large yabbies in the picture above I have kept in a four foot tank with an internal canister filter and no pvc pipe for two weeks now with no mortalities. I'm sure if they moult though they would be eaten. |
