Who's the poor fella who has to watch all that porn to decide what's abusive? Will they give some degenerate a spell from prison to act as an 'expert' consultant? |

Why can't we share But on a serious note does it stop there. I remember when they seperated rego from green slips to make it cheaper and now I'm paying more than before. Will they start to sensor other things. And if so who will be deciding what and why. |

Yep... that's the real problem... just what is going to be censored and who decides... It opens up the door to political censorship... And just what do they hope to acheive anyway... all traffic is monitoredby most countries even now.... and most governments have sufficient tools to penetrate, arrest and convict those who act illegally.... I'm one of the over 150000 who signed the petition... which Senator Conroy has decided to completly ignore.... more for reasons of the principle of censorship, especially by government... than for any other reason.... as I'm more concerned about the power it hands to "a government" either now or in the future... And you have to ask... just what are the motivations of the government... when they allow unfettered sleaze-bag stripper and sex ads on prime time TV... yet want to filter the internet... free downloads of porn to anyone with a mobile phone... but no access to informed adult choice on the internet.... Bullocks I reckon... it's got nothing to do with "protecting our children"... Getup has been running a campaign for some time... you can flood Senator Conroy's mailbox with your complaint here.... http://www.getup.org.au/campaign/GreatF ... 4,288847,1 |

years ago i heard a porn director interviewed on triple j.... she had an interesting point.. there is so much censorship applied to porn....that we must protect our kids from such images....yet very little to violence.. her question was... how different would our society be if for entertainment, we saw images of two people in a loving imbrace...rather than murdering eachother... i agree with rupe and duff... who will make the decision on what is appropriate to view? on a slight hijack note.... we live in a capitalistic world..but so easily and quickly we are looking to our goverment to take over everything... isnt that socialistic?? |

Lost Hippy ,, i really DO NOT think the gov wants to stop us seeing " two people in a loving embrace" , but they DO want to stop access to films depicting things the majority find offensive , degrading and inhuman. I suggest they are more likely to filter a lady and german shepphard in a lkoving embrace. Nobody wants governemnt control AND THEY WOULD NOT BE NECESSARY IF PEOPLE KEPT THINGS WITHIN REASONABLE BOUNDS , UNFORTUNATELY PEOPLE CONTINUALLY WANT TO PUSH THE LIMITS. I for one do NOT see any rerason for the availability of extreme porn , Bestiality / SNUFF movies and the like should and will be filtered. |

The only ppl against censorship are those strong enough to resist, and those stupid enough not to. Everybody else is a conservative |

That's the trouble though Chappo... the blacklist doesn't just contain those sorts of sites... over 2300 in total... Actually, only under half the list is related to that, the rest are gambling sites, soft, mild & hardcore porn sites, gore sites. Multiple legitimate businesses and Web sites have been banned including two bus companies, online poker sites, multiple Wikipedia entries, Google and Yahoo group pages, a dental surgery and a tour operator. AND.... the list is SECRET.... not available to the public... AND it's even ILLEGAL TO DISTRIBUTE THE LIST... Users republishing the banned Web sites will effectively break the law and risk an $11,000 fine from the watchdog. The http://www.wikileaks.org page linking to the list is already blacklisted and you can't even load it. "Wikileaks" were the people responsible for recently leaking the list.... Consider this quote... Quote: The state must declare the child to be the most precious treasure of the people. As long as the government is perceived as working for the benefit of the children, the people will happily endure almost any curtailment of liberty and almost any deprivation. .... Adolf Hitler. |

sorry if i hit a nerve chappo.. i agree that humans will always push limits... and unfortunately there is always a market for this garbage... i might not have made myself clear... i dont believe porn is good... just quoting a talkback show..and the female directors view... but any kid can walk into a video store and rent the most depraved act of violence...with no one batting an eyelid.. i know of 9 year olds who have watched the whole saw series... and their parents look at me as if i am doing something wrong because i wont let mine see it. gov control over what we have access to is the issue.. i work for the qld govt...and access their intra net... i went to study a condition thru the net...but was blocked from viewing a health nsw gov site because it had some content relating to sexual function.. which was not a primary part of the research.. as the original question asked... who within the govt will make the decision of what is appropriate?? |

And the biggest joke of all.... the governments own web page findings... Quote: Other findings It is possible for a technically competent user to circumvent filtering technologies. http://www.dbcde.gov.au/funding_and_pro ... tions#13.0 |

losthippy, yes I new you where quoting.Nothing taken or given as "personal" I guess we all agree the line must be drawn somewhere ,, it is the where that is the problem. Things are never black and white and we have millions of spin doctors continually muddying the waters. I don't know what the answer is , but i Hope the Governemnt finds a reasonable middle ground , after all , that is what we pay them to do. |
