Post subject:  My new business website...please have a look.

Hi guys,

I have just started a small business out here in Kalgoorlie, and I would appreciate it if you could have a look and tell me if I am missing something.

Any and all feedback welcome.

Looks pretty good from a novice point of view.
All the important stuff is there like what you do where you are and how you can be contacted.
I am sure the site will develop as you proceed.

its adequate ... as said before, contacts etc are there and its a nice photo of your equipment on the page.... considered a "about us" section?... your way of selling yourself to your future customers... just a thought :)

I am going to add an 'about us' section as soon as I pick up my ute and get the toolboxes on it. I though a photo of me, with ute would be good in that section.

Still have to get my first client though :?

Did you do it all yourself?

If so, I have heard that it pays to update your web site often. (even if it is only adding a few lines of content each time.) I guess it causes search engines and crawlers to take note of it more and ups your visibility on searches. The more activity on your web site, the more visible it will be. And avoid "under construction" pages. Simply don't add the page till you have something to put on it.

Otherwise looks like a really good start.

I like that it is very clean and clear (hate sights with flashing stuff or patterned background behind the type that makes it hard to read.)

Bling is for the teenies :)

Didi it by myself TCL, it's no harder than using a publisher type of program, make boxes, insert pics etc. I used http://www.webpage-maker.com/ to make the site, and used http://www.webcity.com.au/ to host it. Their website builder is pretty crap though. The site is very fast for Aussies, since it is hosted in Sydney. Made it a bit more expensive.

Thanks for the feedback everyones

Good luck on your new business.

Your Contact (or Contact Us) section, you should probably make the email address a hyperlink type of attritube... ie. click on it and it will bring up your email client.

Also... You should give your website a Title. At this moment, it is Untitled.

It would also be a good idea to include the type of machinery you can service in "texts" as well. I think it hard to search for photos but easier to search for texts.

I dont see the bit about aquaponics - I thought you were an AP consultant as well?

Just tried to make it a hyperlink, and it dissapears (ie becomes white) even with the colour set to black....

The page comes up titled on both explorer and mozilla for me, on two different pc's. AHA !! Only the home page is titled, the others were untitled :) Fixing it now.

What do you mean by putting it into texts?

KE - I thought I had better get the proper side of my business sorted first - I'll put up a bit about AP once I get going :)

G'day OBO

Mate, the main thing you need to win with the search engines (and that's how people find the site) is to have plenty of content (words) for the search engines to index.

TCLynx is also right, the search engines like to see an active site rather than a static one. Doesn't need to be a lot of activity, just something to show them you're not dead. The search engines are getting smarter and smarter all the time and focus on relevency to the searcher's query - updating means you are more relevent, in one aspect, as you are less likely to have become dated.

Set a goal of adding a new page every month, discussing some aspect of the work you do - you mightn't think there's much to say but there is.

Also, this won't happen over night - perseverance and just pluggin' away is what gets you there.

At risk of sounding like I'm pushing my site (I'm not) - the traffic figures I am now achieving put me in the top 3% of websites in the world - but it's taken 3+ years of updating and newsletters to get there. Happy to answer any questions you may have OBO.

Also OBO, I'm a geologist and have been in the industry 20 years.

From the business side, if I was looking to hire you, there are a few other things I'd like to see on your site such as

- Current clients and rigs being serviced
- Past clients and rigs serviced
- Locations worked (do you have a limit to how far out you provide service ?)
- Something about your safety policy and record (you know how big mining is on that)
- Got any drillers/foremen/shift bosses that are happy to provide a reference (might cost you a carton, but well worth it).

Cheers
