Hi,

I saw your article in Organic Gardening Australia when I was flicking through it in the newsagent... and the minute I saw it I bought it! I was blown away by the concept!

I've never heard of aquaponics before and I was gobsmacked, what a brilliant idea!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I am an ultra ultra beginner, I had one very poorly maintained (but fruitful none the less) no dig garden at my old place but really don't know anything about gardening or fish or anything.. my family is not into gardening at all.

Looking forward to meeting you all and learning lots more about how someday (Dreaming) I can do something like this... :)

God bless, nice ot meet you all :) :) :)

Being in Brissy you have a number of people from here who live there - so meeting people wont be a problem

Welcome and enjoy the journey! :D

Wow! ~completely bowled over~ Thank you so much for the warm welcome! :) :) :)

GLR is a fine adaptation, my handle is long.. :)

Hi purrsikat! Yay! I'm glad there is a fellow Newbie!

Awesome to hear that there are so many SEQ people, and just the general Aussie factor is aweseome too.

Steve - LOL I'm happy to be molded.. I know N O T H I N G ...

Everyone... So tell me, from my quick browse around... it seems like a real hobby and such a great idea... but what motivates you to do it? Is it environmental/sustainability stuff or general interest.. or the hunter gatherer in one factor.. or ???

It seems like such a great concept, i'm already in love with it... Please tell me though...

- How much time do you spend maintaining once it is set up?

- How much does it cost to set up? I will follow your advice and maybe to a little fish tank one first... to get a better idea...

- I'm not handy at all, will I need to be???

- Once set up, is it easily maintained? Does it provide a cheaper means of provided great healthy food?

- Are aqua gardens (i'm hoping for vegies) easier/harder/same as conventional?

Thanks again for your awesome welcome! Fantastic 'vibe' on this site, it's great!I've naughtily spent some of my 'work' day reading through the forums... so facinating but... phew.. I'm going to have to catch onto the 'lingo' quickly!

:) Cheers!

Once its STABLE you won't spend any more time than throwing the fish a hand full of food. Maybe the occasional water top up.

- How much does it cost to set up? I will follow your advice and maybe to a little fish tank one first... to get a better idea...

How long is a pice of string? I think davids done it for about $30 and joels was a few thousand. Its totally up to YOU :)

- I'm not handy at all, will I need to be???

Can you use a cordless drill? :) You'll learn to be :) Not too much more involved than drilling a few hoels really, you don't need an engineering degree. Some people have even found it an excuse to learn how to weld  so they could build tank / bed stands :)

- Once set up, is it easily maintained? Does it provide a cheaper means of provided great healthy food?

Cheaper? probably, considering you're getting fish as well as veggies. There is also the 90% odd water saving over dirt gardens. There is the added benifit of knowing EXACTLY what goes into your system, IE the fish food.

- Are aqua gardens (i'm hoping for vegies) easier/harder/same as conventional?

Permi gardens seem pretty easy (i'd like to set one up soon, the one with the newspaper and straw) but aqua would definatly be more fun, and you have the added bonus of people thinking you're stark raving MAD

Have we convinced you yet? :)

Steve
