This system includes a 35 gallon fish tank, garden bed, water pump and a simplified, patented ebb and flow drainage system.
Dallas System!

I'd love to know how you can patent Gravity and Atmospheric Pressure!!?
But I'm not about to shell out $800US ($1000AUS) to find out!
At least the yanks on these forums know much better than to be suckered into purchasing such a cynical, band wagon jumping attempt to cash in on others work and knowledge.
You can also get some obviously world beating, exclusive and just as functional jewelry on his site as well!

Oh well, there is one born every minute. . . .and then they breed and vote!
Cheers, IanK

I don't like their prices but I do like the wood finish. My previous comment about them was that the legs look flimsy for holding up a gravel bed.

BTW I wouldn't by any means hold up these folks as "American style AP", in fact you could say BYAP is a copy of S&S, right?

Bandwagon jumpers, get rich quick merchants, scammers, box movers... an inevitable evolution I suppose...

This system was mentioned else where... and the good "Doctor"... is flogging it like mad... on TV... talk shows ... and the early moron news shows...

Quote:
Aquaponics found 15 minutes of fame recently when Good Morning America, the Wall Street Journal, and the LA Times all featured “Farm in a Box,” a new home aquaponics system built by Earth Solutions. Many home gardeners haven’t even heard of aquaponics yet, much less how to set up a system at home. That’s probably why so many folks are scratching their heads right now wondering how these systems work and where they can get one.

Read more of the system review....http://www.gardening-resources.com/home ... m-review...

At least Backyard Aquaponics gets a link... and a "sponsered ad"...

The "Farm in a box" mob apparantly even have a deal with Home Depot to sell the systems...

Having catered for the aromatherapy, jewellery, essential oils, herbs and alternate medicine markets... and knowing the demographic of the market he's been servicing... and burgeoning interest in aquaponics...

It was an obvious "niche" for a philanthropic entrepenaur to spot and exploit... all in the name of "saving the earth" ... of course...

Hippies and alternate lifestylers beware.... the free market is targeting your consumer dollar... and stupidity...

Once again, know your history, I wonder if some of the new folks don't know about S&S, they aren't as visible because they don't have a new-fangled web forum but only an email list that was running way back. Not shysters and carefully designed their systems for simplicity and ease of construction and maintenance. The only reason I didn't do one verbatim was because the tanks and grow beds from Polytank were way out of my price range.

No disputing S&S were pioneers in aquaponics... a point made and oft repeated from the early days of the forum...

But to my knowledge S&S never developed "kit" systems... but have/do freely share their designs and information... although they may charge a "fee" for doing so these days...

These guys.. and others like them... come from a totally different perspective...

I wonder if the good doctor burns essential oils in his porche... and wears the cheap bling he markets around his own neck and wrist...

I agree this can only hurt, as these systems will be less than successful in providing anything but a little something to look at. I'm sure Nocky was just having fun with it as Aqua ranch and SS aqua has been around a while. But even their hobby systems are very expensive... but are high quality. These other guys are just snake oil salesmen.

Bill just came across it, I don't know much about AP in the US, or in OZ for that matter  but was there for a bit of a laugh as I didn't think the systems were that advanced, I thought they might be taking the piss out of us  but the book on how to build below pic for $35  that I can't believe

The plans for producing a barrel system like that should be free, like the barrelponics system instructions. I have great respect for the folks who have shared info for free, like S&S with the email list, and Joel with the best AP forum in the world, and Travis with the free barrelponics manual and Yahoo group. It's an almost immediate turn-off when the profit motive is in play, not when they provide a real service but this sort of thing will sucker in people who would be better served here or with barrelponics.

Surely this image photoshopped, with the all the might of the US government this can't be all they could come up with :o I can not for the life of me see why a nations leader would allow such an ugly, overpriced crap looking raised garden bed clearly designed to cash in on suckers to be installed on his lawn.

I did hear they were going to turn the front lawn into a productive garden however I thought there would be some beautifully designed permaculture gardens.

Undoubtally due to lobbying by a "box mover"...

Yeah, such a pity... instead of "window dressing", it should have embraced a serious intent...

I'm not sure that location is right - looks like the view you get from the fence near the public access area near the White House. They call it a kitchen garden which tells me it is probably a lot closer to the house that that picture.

Here is the garden plan:

http://www.whitehouse.gov/assets/docume ... layout.pdf

Edit: actually it is that far away from the house. Though they are raised it looks like not all are in wooden boxes:

The plan looks alright... but an aquaponics system would have been better...
