Dear Monya,
Greetings from Darwin! Had a few hassels getting up here as Nocky posted me in an express bag but Australia Post doesn't do overnight post to Darwin, therefore it took longer than I expected. Sure am glad that you cant write a limerick to save your life, I imagine it's brass monkey weather in Meadows. Great if you're a trout, but not for me. It's a balmy 30C here and I'm enjoying the sun. Great weather for barra, but I dont suppose you've got a licence for them either.
Went fishing the other day and caught a bucket full, my mate caught a tuna which went down well on the barbie. Saw a heap of crocs on the Adelaide River. Havin a great time, wish you were here
Keep warm,
John
ps Erik says hello. Will send some photos soon

Dear Monya
left Darwin yesterday and started heading south. Here's a pic of me (and my mate Jed) hanging out at Bitter Springs, a thermal pool near Mataranka in NT. Checked out some barra feeding too, this bloke had a pet 1m long barra that he can hand feed and pick-up! It's a little bit cooler now and the barra have slowed down their eating, water temp in the barra pond was 20C, thats getting close to a good trout temp. Temp in the springs was 32C.
Hope you and your silver perch are not too cold down in Meadows.
Take care,
John.

Did you keep going past Mataranka... through St Vincents station to the Roper Bar... or over to the gulf???

Trying to remember the Aussie movie that was made out there on the station... can't rmember it for the life of me...

What's wrong Jed mate? Barra give ya a nip, he looks a bit melancholy, probably wishes he was swimming with silvers, way less aggressive. :geek:

Nope... remember now... "We of the Never Never" - 1982...

Was filmed on the "Elsey" station, (not St Vinnies)... on the way toward Roper Bar...

You turn right and pass through "St Vincents" to head over to the Gulf...

Roper Bar is the boundary of the tidal influence... and the entry into the Arnhiem Land... strictly controlled...

We had an Aboriginal mate who worked with us at Tennat Creek... used to be able to get us in for fishing trips.... magical country... with a sense of eons of antiquity... and a spirituality that seems to ooze from the country..

we stayed at Mataranka Station where they have the set from the ...never never film. It was a pretty close reproduction to the original house including hand sawn local timber etc. Sorry I didn't get a good pic of the whole house.
