What? with Las Vegas and the surrounding desert in the middle? Why would you wonder? Ours is QLD, with Surfers Paradise as 'crime central'. Although I reckon if they actually knew how many "non-persons" lived and died in Lightning Ridge, it would have to be 'murder capital' of Oz!! Cheers IanK |

You know the advertising slogan, " what happens in Vegas, stays in Vegas? Well, the state of Nevada has upped that. What criminals are convicted in Nevada, stay in Nevada. Even after they are released from prision, they must permently live in the state of Nevada for the rest of their lives. OJ is your problem now. |

They do put a lot of people in prison here, they must make money off of it somehow, or they would not do it. I had some tomatoes stolen before I think, right off the vine. |

Sad to hear that Duff.... the current frightening trend for people to use a knife is really disturbing... In years gone by when I was in NZ... using a knife, or glassing someone was considered a completely gutless and cowardly act... Two blokes could stand in a bar and belt one another... and the rest of the patrons would just clear a space... but if anyone smashed a glass, or reached for a knife... The entire bar would jump him... and beat him senseless.... |

There was a murder in our town about 13 years ago, it was a fight over chickens making too much noise. prolly a lot more to it then that.Other then that I can not think of a violent crime here. I think economy has a lot to do with crime. |

ouch... murder is one thing.... suicide is another... we have a lot of suicides over here in Perth. Its highly unusual because we're a city on a very big flat plain in Australia. Not that I'm thinking about it but it kinda bothers me a lot because they always do it in the most public places. Even I wonder if they realize they are public places? I've already lost 3 friends to suicide. |

we seem to have share of murders it is a small place. A woman who did her nursing training with my dad, over 50 years ago, lived next door to my FIL. Her son freaked out (no other nice way to describe it) and murdered his ex-girlfriend, who was the best friend of my next-door neighbour. Then he suicided. |

Lost a nephew about 3 months ago to suicide Child custody problems, another nephew's wife and her cousin to suicide about 3 months prior to that. Her cousin swam out at the when they laid a reith in Bayou Loutre' for the 3 year memorial of Katrina and drowned. My nephew's wife OD'ed 3 days later. They lost their Mother/Aunt in Katrina. There are a lot of problems in the world today. I hope it doesn't become a tinderbox. |

You know the old saying, "When the going gets tough, the tough get going." There is more to that than just an old cliché. Meaning: When a situation is difficult or dangerous, strong people work harder to resolve the problem. http://www.englishclub.com/ref/esl/Sayi ... g_1314.htm Times like this test people's will to survive, their coping skills, and their adaptability and believe me it hasn't gotten to the worst yet. Most people work a 9 to 5 job and get very settled in their lives, even if they are less than happy with it. When something comes along that disrupts that, they have the hardest time adjusting and they run the greatest risk of harming themselves or others. I had a difficult childhood and was raised by elderly parents that both served in WWII and had gone through the great depression, albeit in two different countries, so I heard first hand how it had been and almost feel like I have one foot still in past. I have been an entrepreneur most of my life, which means that I'm use to money being tight and having to get creative, so I never had to depend on an employer and I have always plowed any extra money into my own businesses and never relied on the stock market to secure my future. I knew one day the stock market would crash- it's almost as if all the wealthy get together and decide that "now" is the time to pull all that money out and those who aren't liquid enough, get stuck holding the bag. That money doesn't just evaporate, it is taken away. The only exception was the readjustment valuation of inflated assets- that one even the wealthy didn't even see coming. I use to wonder about how much crap I dealt with but I know that everything happens for a reason- I will make it, no matter how difficult things get, I'm smart and I'm tough-suicide is not an option- that is an easy out and the greater the challenge, the more I dig in. Those who commit suicide are actually selfish as they have no idea how much damage they do to the ones they leave behind. |
