Not dismissing it but have really never given a second thought to the “Planting by the Moon” until the article by Ivan in the last (4th) issue of BY mag. Have spent few hours searching the net for anything serious related to it but except for references to some research work I couldn’t find any documented comparative data. As far as I am aware plant put all their energy into reproduction when stressed and also type of nutrient available will influence their growth.(excess of nitrogen). Months ago I have sown some chinese green seeds (Bok Choy most probably) and as soon as they germinated have developed only two or three tiny leaves and bolted. Each grew flower stalk with tiny yellow flowers and stayed stunted while other greens planted earlier were doing nicely. They certainly weren’t stressed by lack of water. Have no explanation for it. Moon influence or voodoo? As soon as I get a GB available (empty), will make a test. Will plant half GB with something appropriate for that season at the recommended moon phase and the second half at the least proper moon phase to see if there is influence and by how much. Have anybody done anything similar already? Any recommendation? Good idea Steve! I don't see myself planting any other way. |
