What exactly is hydroponic "equipment" ? That's about the stupidest thing I have ever heard.

This article on ABC news on new laws being introduced in South Aus will require ... Quote: Buyers would also have to undergo a 100-point identity check to buy hydroponic equipment, with their details to be forwarded to police. So if you are buying hydro equipment you will be treated like a criminal. Thoughts? Will Joel have to do ID checks to send an AP system to SA? |

And police "intelligence" says that "legitimate" growers of tomatos and vegetables... "Don't buy their equipment from specialist hydroponic shops... but from hardware and plumbing shops".... ... (in the video link)Who is this nazi dick... what an un-informed (or should that be uniformed) idiot... Christ police intelligence is becoming as much an oxymoron as "military intelligence".... Why don't they concentrate on the real drug problem... heroin, ice, speed etc... Could that be because of police and business involvement/corruption.... and the millions of dollars involved.... Our attorney General Michael Atkinson is pretty hardlined. So if I sell some hydro channels or net pots or grow media for growbeds, am I to take ID? I say we just say we are an AQUAPONICS business not hydro. See them challenge that. |

What i have learnt Rupert is that the weed is meant to make people think to much about what is wrong with the world, unlike the other drugs where they are so whacked out they don't remember what they are doing. Funny thing is the "Weeders" would be thinking how to get around this

Seriously... yes there is some "equipment" sold in hydro stores that can/is used for marijuana growing... like "grow tents", chinaman hats, son-t-agro and other lighting, nutrients etc... But it's all used by the bloke at home... (not justifiying or cordoning it)... If you look at the busts of those involved in "commercial" trafficking.... i.e. raids on houses full of the stuff.... It's all done with poly tubing, black buckets, tubs, timers etc etc.... All the stuff that they can get from Bunnings... without arousing suspicion.... And yep... I've evenn seen Chinaman hats and son-t-argo bulbs for sale in Bunnings as well.... The other main source.... is of course ... eBay..... Australia never had a serious "hard" drug problem in the 1970's.... until Mr. Asia, Trimbole etc... realised that it was much easier and profitable (hugely) to import/distribute heroin etc... rather than marijuana... And that they could do so with the support of a totally corrupt police force in NSW, Vic, Qld... and senior judicial members.... It was the police force, judiciary ... and some well known "legitimate", as well as some "shady" businessmen who created Australias drug problem... And hard drugs are Australis drug problem.... not the "stoned" lone cowboy napping on his lounge.... And Australias major drug problem ... is and always has been.... alcohol and cigarettes... but they're taxable aint they...

I dont have a problem showing my drivers licence when I pull out my credit card at the hydro shop. Buying the stuff doesn't mean I am or will be treated like a crim. Hydro dope growing is a big problem in Adelaide (and most other places). People getting psychotic on hydro dope is also a big problem (if you dont believe me just come to work with me one day). These laws are trying to catch the bad guys, but if you're only growing fish and vegies then you've got nothing to worry about. |

Come on guys. The cops just want to know who is growing stuff so when they run out it is easier for them to find some more supplies. They target plants because they get sent to paid rehab if they are caught but are sent to prison if they are found with the hard stuff. Maybe thats why last year the dozen or so raids in our town where only pot growers but the ones selling hard stuff (speed ice etc) were left alone.  Must be harder to find them. They houses are only lit up like christmas trees with people coming and going 24/7 because on speed they can't sleep for days at a time. The psychotic thing I think is because they are on speed so they can keep smoking and drinking for days at a time. Had a customer the other day that was proud of the fact that he and his mates had been drinking for 2 days straight. You need little pills to do that. |

The point is that there is nothing that could be used for hydroponics that could not be used for other purposes. Mr Atkinson is obviously a dickhead and I would love to see how he intends to draft that legislation. Name me one thing that I would require to grow an "illegal" crop that could be described as hydroponic "equipment" ? |

Whilst I understand your point KE, it's more than just your licence. 100 points means licence, passport and a credit card or two. And the business owner need to photocopy and record all these details. Being that some percentage of hydro stores themselves would be dodgy, how much identity theft might go on? Further to that, who wants to take their passport or birth certificate with them? It makes a trip to they hydro store a planned outing, many will go out of business, because you just 'Drop in' (of course those who shoot and drive can, as a shooting licence, driving licence and credit cards are enough.) It really suits my lack of organisation to have 100 points in my wallet at all times. |
