Hope ever AP'er in Victoria is safe.... and my thoughts and tears go out to all that have lost family homes or family members in todays bush fires.

For the benefit of our international members.... Victoria was about 47 degrees today, with winds up to 100km...

The resulting bushfires are jnown to have destroyed severl hundred homes... at least one entire village/town...

And sadly claimed at least 25 lives... with the death toll expected to triple as rescue crews and firefighters get into the remoter bush towns.

One estimated horrifyingly predicted several hundred lives may have been lost.

Here's hoping they're wrong and many people may be found safe and alive....

My thoughts are with everyone.... :(

It's really bad. I didn't hear about it until the news this morning, must have missed it last night.

I also heard that as well as the areas where the people were killed, that Narra Warren has been hit. Is that correct. I know that BK lives there.

Most everyone I know who was at risk is safe and well, however lost homes and close calls were abundant.
To those family who lost their loved ones, our thoughts are with you. To the Volunteers doing their best to curb the fires, you have my appreciation and deepest admiration, I do hope your bother recovers well.
I can only hope we've seen the last of these shockingly hot days and nasty wind.

I just received a couple of concerned phone calls, but after some investigation, one of our family friends is OK, house is OK, but all her Alpaca are burnt. The wool mostly protected their skins though, so some may survive.
Now it's headed on up to Alexandra, to my Dad's place. All of kinglake township was taken out in the cool change yesterday (somehow I missed this).

Yes, it is a sad event, so many lives lost and more unaccounted for - continuous reports showing on the tv all this morning

It just seems unprecedented how many people are affected by this in one way or the other.

I guess being in the north (Eltham) and its proximity to me it seems worse.

Family friends in Kinglake West (the town pretty much all but gone) saved their house with roof mounted sprinklers and themselves by hiding with their neighbours in their underground wine cellar. Lost the entire vineyard though.

Another friend in St Andrews was lucky to have the fire go around her house. Many others were not so lucky and 8 people lost their lives in the area.

Today my parents are in high alert in Panton Hill (5-10km from St Andrews). They are fine unless the wind turns northerly or easterly.

Although my fingers are crossed it’s not over just yet pending what the wind does today.
