Post subject:  Thumbs up to Cigweld
Some of you may have seen from another post that my welder gave up on me after only a few hours of service (cutting out just a couple of seconds into each cycle). Unfortunately it is out of warranty because it sat in the box for about 2 years after I first bought it :oops: .

I e-mailed Cigweld, told them my problem and asked if they could do anything to help. I emphasised that I had bought the known/reputable brand so that this sort of thing would not happen.

Cigweld diagnosed the problem as a thermostat issue (fairly obvious) and are sending me a new one for nothing so that I can have somebody fit it.

I congratulate Cigweld for treating their customes like they should, by taking some responsibility for faults that should not occur. In this instance buying the known brand product has worked out (hope I am not speaking prematurely).

Electricians on both sides (one who we drink with) and I also have a sparky on my staff at work (but not the done thing to use him for anything as I am a public servant :oops: and he gets paid from the public purse). Took the welder appart tonight knowing that they are sending the part out. The thermostat is set up so that it just needs to be unplugged and new one plugged in, so no electrician will be needed :D . They must have just said that for liability purposes.

there wasn't any funky white paste on it was there? if there was then you should put some back on the new one, its a heat transfer compound.

There was indeed. It had set solid and has broken in half. It nearly looks like a hard white silicon (though I know it isn't). Where do I get that stuff from steve.

tricky dickies (dick smith electronics) has little 5ml tubes of it probably less than $5. Don't get it on your clothes, the missus will SHOOT you :)

I often do things that i should know better. I repaired my dishwasher once, and knew i had to put some of that compund back around the water temperature sensor, but didn't have any handy.

The water comes in at about 60C but the damn thing still wanted to heat it higher becasue the sensor was getting a low reading through lack of heat transfer. god knows what temp it would heat it to :shock:

VB, did you end up receiving/ fitting the new thermal? Or are you still using it "bypassed" :)

Received the thermostat Steve. Have not fitted it yet as I have not needed to the welder since I finished my grow-bed stand. Will fit it when I next need to use the welder or when I get a spare minute.
