hi all,

i just wanted to share something that was shared with me as i'm sure most will get a kick out of it. it turns out there is someone in perth charging $2000 call out fee just to come out to a house to give a quote for a system. i wont mention any names but its someone who wrote an article for gardening australia recently. it seems a bit much that he expects $2000 just to tell someone how much more money they need to spend. sounds a lot like those aquaculture experts in the 90's who did so much harm.

now fair enough if this guy had been doing ap for 10 years but so far as i'm aware this guy is relatively new to ap.

anything to make a buck from an unscrupulous buyer.

i have to make it clear though that this is what i have been told and may not be true. if it is however wtf. :?

i will be talking to the person and will likely setup one of Joels systems for about the price of the quote.

don't you just love experts?

I am afraid that if they are named, it leaves the forum open to legal attack :(

Get a written quote ..... then there is no legal problems showing said quote.

My simple, basic rule of thumb is.... If you have so little faith in your product and pricing that you feel you have to charge for the priveledge of quoting a potential customer....

Don't bother... I wont be paying you to quote me.... and I wont be buying from you....

Go back to the Harvard Business School or whoever/where ever you got the looney idea from and tell them they're *sigh*.....

isnt THE TRUTH a defense against defamation?

crap, at $100 AUD per hour then the quote would entail 20 hrs of work!

$100 per hour, Steve your under paid 8) but did see the article and it is ridiculous, (the quote price), but the silly thing is people pay these prices and that's why they charge them, but then people don't realize the system is quoted then pay $5000-00+ for a system, then they have to maintain it, which most would know is probably the hardest job, people that do pay these prices haven't got time to do it themselves anyhow, so where are they going to find time to run it? for me I love experimenting + failing= try again, places like this forum are the only place to find out, people here will give idea's on pricing and if all else fails there is always EB (Joel) in WA anyhow

If you buy a system from him will he take the cost of the quote off of the price of the system?

We charge $80 for a 2 hour quote and info talk, and take the $80 off if they buy a system... seems I should be putting my prices up

like i say i don't know if this is true and it sounds too unlikely to be true. having said that in this day and age you never know. i hope i am incorrect. i just wanted to share what i was told as i found it amusing after everything i've heard recently.

i have no intention to follow this up as i would go no further than Joel for a system. after all he's a pioneer of ap not a jack of all trades. your one stop ap shop.

We had some problems with a flow through gas hot water system (in November last year). (In Adelaide)
The service guy who came to fix it asked for $115.00 cash up front. He spent about 16 minutes checking /fixing it. HOW'S THAT. The system still is not working to our satisfaction and I feel inclined to contact consumer affairs and report that sort of practise.
Cheers heka
