"Despite the diversity of mussel fauna found within the U.S., no other group of animals (aquatic or terrestrial) is as imperiled or has faced as many extirpations. The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service lists seventy species as federally endangered or threatened, many more are protected at the state level"

and that's just mussels :/ wtf are we doing?! polar bears are drowning we are sucking the earth dry of every single resource at an unsustainable rate growing exponentially and smashing down every hill dale and tree in sight! When all this goes terribly wrong and mother earth reclaims what is hers by purging this uncaring nasty little bugger we call mankind I wont be able to bring myself to anger over it...we had it coming :(

I'm not saying "We" since aquaponics and sustainable homesteads are the only way to redeem our race and save what's left of our lovely little planet but we make up what? 10%? there is a tidal wave coming and despite any efforts the momentum is already to great to stem.

The single above thought is what sent me down this path of discovery. I only hope the few of us that adapt and embrace what must be done can at least move out of the way before the wave sweeps us away with the rest of the clutter.

*edited to not ruffle feathers(still true though ;p )

P.s. we are running out of fossil fuels
The oil may not run out within 10 years and the earth may just sit back and let us melt it's face off but just in case might i suggest taking cover? ;)

I always thought that we were less intelligent than viruses.

A virus will inhabit its host to the detriment of the host. Some viruses, like humans, exploit the host to the extent that it will kill the host.

The difference between us and viruses is that viruses were smart enough to realise that if they are going to destroy the host to the extent that the host dies they need to establish some way of transferring themselves to another host.

We however are destroying our host, but when our host dies, we have nowhere else to go!

How stupid are we??? :confused2:

I understand the USF&WS and many state natural resource agencies have just recently begun a big push for research.

Just like shown here: http://youtube.com/watch?v=F-QA2rkpBSY (see all 8 of these)

7% growth means double consumption in 10 years. Its not even possible to double the producing oil system in 10 years, even if it was there.

Something is going to snap sooner or later. The wold leaders know what is going on. Thats why they have paid some pour countries to force sterilize its citizens. That their solution. And war is good for that.

Quote:
Within Latin America, Peru and Mexico are examples of countries where sterilization targeting indigenous women and youth has continued to be used in recent years.

Clearly, the human race can not continue on at this rate a lot longer. If the globalist dont kill us off then the earth is going to. Equilibrium will be reached; 0% growth! Which is a problem for the modern economic (fake) systems of the world which require growth to work. We simply can not keep growing. So there is going to have to be a paradigm shift in business and life style. That shift will take place voluntarily or involuntarily by necessity but it will happen.

It might be in my life time, but oil will run out then all modern agriculture will be in trouble. They can now make oil from bio matter in minuets now, but that will even if that allowed us to keep growing growth still has to come to an end. Thats why I have a goal to produce everything my family needs within our own land. At least our impact on the earth will be limited to our place on this earth is not taking it from others. The problem I have is balancing it. I mean I still need plastic and pumps and power for AP and the next generation will still need more plastic, pumps and power..... How low tech can you go without having a very large piece of land?

We really are all living on the same planet, sharing the same ocean and breathing the same air! I think this link really puts it all in perspective in a mathematical way http://www.breathingearth.net/ But to understand the humanity of the situation this next link will really hammer it right into anyones head http://richarddawkins.net/article,1074, ... Carl-Sagan We all have to change because we all are at risk if we don't!

The last thing I want to mention is something much smaller that I have been proud to be part of. Its called 'aquaponics' and its a way to create an enclosed system that uses fish, bacteria and plants to create fresh food. Its kind of like a new age of farming in a way that doesn't impact on our environment. Have a look at this link for an idea of what its all about http://backyardaquaponics.com/ !!!

It just all makes ya want to be one of the fish you are slaving away looking after some says lol

That was well done! Makes me ashamed of america!

I have seen all this in my life time growing out of control. People are miserable and dont even think for them selves anymore. When I grew up you could see the stars and blue sky. You could see from one mountain to another I could drink from streams. No one I knew was sick or had cancer. Now, everyone is sick, many have cancer and I cant see the stars or the next hill for the pollution and I would not bathe in many streams anymore. And what is all this damage for? So the Corporation can make a fortune and leave my children's children broke holding the trash bag? Its not cool at all!

The juice box lined with plastic, paper and metal is a good example of how simple it would be to change the way things are done. Using only 100% recyclable material would be so simple and solve a lot of problems, but that would make it a little harder for the big corps to make money; lord knows they dont want to exert them selves over something that is no about them.

I really like the part where the guy is walking a circle (work home buy work) I have been thinking about this a lot. I work my butt off and I really get nothing of any value for the effort. I loose all the time with my family and in the end only people matter not what I did in a career. It would seem that I have gotten into the american dream where I really am just making some big guys at the top a lot of money in exchange for existence. Pretty damn $#itty deal really! It amounts to voluntary slavery in exchange for a house like everyone else's and a car to get to work all of which will be looked down on if I dont have the newest like everyone else.

One more encouraging thought! If China wants to attain the same standard of living we in the US and OZ now have, they will need the equivalent of 8 planet earths to supply their citizens alone with the raw material. :(

 Since the earth doesn't have the resources, China will solve the problem as man has in the past...WAR.

Just about lay 100:1 that we start the war before they do.... precisely because we wont allow our economy or lifestyle to be compromised by them.....

Did we sell it to them? Or just the components? (Tongue in cheek) They own most of our treasury bonds.
I was concerned about our military support of Taiwan whenever China starts talking one nation.

No, I don't support a change in taxes. I get my moneys worth just being a citizen. We have a lot to be thankful for living in a progressive society. I can complain as much as I want but at the end of the day I like here.

We sold(gave) them a decommissioned carrier and they promised that they would not use it for military uses.. :P Well, we see how trustable they are ;) No ones promise seems to matter anymore and no one even raises a question about it huh?

Well China has a few old aircraft carriers they have converted into floating amusement parks.
Carriers are technological wonders and even though China wants battle groups like the USA they will probably only have heli carriers for many a year yet. Maybe get a VTOL one after that but yea.... most of Chinas navy are destroyers and stuff like that. Japan on the other hand has a few rather choice capital ships.
I will say this, and take it how you will.
Japan spends more than China on defence and has done for a long time. Don't just believe everything you read about China being the danger. China can just sit back and get in an economic win. It is more the fading powerful countries who are set on an empire and are stuck thinking in the "now or never" mode that scare me.
My money is on Japan starting the next big one.
Question is, will Americans be willing to die to defend Japan against the inevitable counter attack?
And who cares about how many nukes everyone has when China is still waiting for a chance to get a bit of biological warfare payback.
Is it just me or does the thought of how effective that could be on a concentrated isolated population like Japans just send a cold shiver down ya spine?
War is so stupid :?

But to get it back onto the extinction subject here is yet another link on plastics.
http://madmariner.com/voyages/cruising/ ... _041108_YC
Even a short video, but yea its a solid read, 5 pages worth. I am thinking the bits on recycled plastics leaching toxins will be of interest to a few people wondering just how safe certain plastic tubs are for food fish. I liked it better when I trusted 'food grade' plastic :(

Quote:
The overwhelming presence of hyper-disposable plastics has led scientists and concerned citizens alike to raise two burning questions: Why have we so vigorously produced products that contain chemicals of which we have no appropriate and/or safe method of disposal? And, why have we created so many products and packaging intended for single-use, yet made to last forever?

"We're a culture of consumption, we're a throw-away society," says Eriksen. "The use of disposable plastics, it has to end, and what's going to be most effective is a ban on those plastics."
