Post subject:  iphone

Hi, i have bored TimC to death lately with my umms and arrs about whether to get the iphone, asking him nearly every question about its features. So i starred at the bank account (hoped the numbers would increase) and did a little impulse buy. Its on its way from the states and i can't wait. So in the mean time i would love some input on it.

Does anyone else own one or has used one before? I have a good mate of mine who owns the ipod touch this thing is basically the iphone but without the phone. It is really responsive and if the iphone is anything like this then i will be very pleased :D

Another thing Nokia just released there new "latest" gizmo the N96 but after a little macromedia work i lined it up with the iphone and seriously nokia must have no imagination... they copied the iphone!

Look at the "home" button on the iphone very destinctive square just like the "ok" button for the Nokia. Oh and is the bar speaker just a factory standard lately? because i think nokia bought the exact speaker :). See if you can see some more :D

Thanks

Nic

nokia copying apple ? heh ,tell em to get on the bus , so is every other company

A mate of mine bought his iPod touch over last week , I never wanted an iPod , but I saw that and started drooling . especially after it roamed and found 3 unsecured networks near my house ...

I was of the understanding that the iphone is locked with a plan from one of the phone companies in the US and theyre not selling them over here yet cause there aint no carrier ? Mind you , you could just unlock it , then avoid the apple updates that try to brick it

Its inovation, simplicity and the average price of a phone now days.

I look around and the only way to get a fairly decent phone seems to be a plan but what we all forget is at the end of said plan we end up paying close to $1000.

Before i had never been the one to get into phone technology, but for awhile now i have watched my friend say "my phone is $700 it has a colour screen and a 1.3 megapixel camera" then they said " My phone costs $1000 and has a 2 megapixel camera and can send video message or surf the web and be very frustrating".

Well the Iphone costs $700 (out right) and has a camera/video, colour touch screen, email, internet, 8gb ipod and is in essence a mobile computer/organiser.

So has anyone ever used one? any of the American users here?

well sure hope it has a good warranty and you don't loose it after a couple days. that would suck big time.

They definitely are locked to the AT&T??? Network. They can be unlocked, and perhaps yours already is, yet it requires a firmware hack, or physical soldering job to do it. It's easy to 'Brick' your phone.
Should it already be unlocked all the best with it.
Another down side is that in America, they do not have 3G, so your phone will be 'limited' compared to the functionality of new phones.
Perhaps this doesn't matter to you.

About the only carrier it might work with is Telstra.... they're the only carrier running "Edge" technology

A 3G model still doesn't exist... and is slatted for introduction to Europe firstly.... where it will be locked to selected local carriers....

China has pulled out of "offical" discussions regarding the iPhone....

Telstra has had some discussions regarding a 3G model ... when available.... but has said that it is unlikely to be introduced to the Australian market this year.... and may not debut until well into 2009

Roz, a hacked version my boss's wife owns is known to work on Vodafone.

They are 100% hacked without any damage to the phone. Geohost has a version 1.1.3 fireware hack and it only takes up 500kb of data. It has all the capabilities and i can choose my own GSM.

There is a whole Australian community of unlocked iphoners. Back in the first release of the Iphone the only way to use it was to solder but this has been long rejected by the use of software now.

The only way for me to "brick" my phone is if i try to update the phone to a higher firmware.

I have a digital camera. I have a mobile phone I have a computer with separate printer and scanner (don't need a dial up moden.

Why try to put everything in the one box and compromise all of them due to the screen size, lack of keyboard and shortage of available memory.

My Nokia 5110 still works well, I can see the numbers on the screen & my fingers hit one number at a time.
My 5Mp camera has optical zoom and I can record many pix on my 4 memory cards which can be read on my PC, or copied to it via USB.
Mu computer is fast, I can see the screen (17"CRT) and what is on it and my fingers are used to keyboarding more than mousing.

It is all over 3 years old and still meeting my wants. I don't need any of this, I do use them though.
