Howdy all,

I made my first cup of home made tea ever today :) In fact i am drinking it now! I made it from my brahmi that i have growing in my IBC system. My girlfriend originally bought it for me about 12 months ago. It was growing really well in a pot until i got a massive caterpillar attack and nearly killed it. It didnt ever really seem to recover in the pot. The when i started my IBC system i got transplanted in there and it has taken off :D So i have finally got a chance to try and make a tea with it. Not having any idea what i am doing i just picked a few sprigs that were growing where i didnt want it to and chopped it up a bit. Put it in a tea bag, stapled it back up ant let it infuse for about 5 mins. The i googled it and found out that i am supposed to dry it first.

So my first cup of home made herbal tea with green brahmi tastes a little bit like a strong green tea. But not really :P

I have no idea if this will help my memory at all but i have just cracked what my GF likes to call mid-twenties and my memory is almost non-existent. So it cant get any worse :)

So anyway i was wondering if anyone else makes herbal teas etc from their produce? I promise to let you all know if this tea i drinking turns me into the supergenious i know i am :P

Rather than using a tea bag, you can use a tea infuser, available in most homeware stores, and sometimes in grocery stores.

I can post a picture of mine if you need help to find one.

I have seen the tea diffusers before, but i dont have one on hand. I dont really drink a lot of tea anyway so these ones have been sitting for a while.

So far i can report on my first tea, gave me a bit of a nausea feeling, kind of like when you have a red bull. Not like you want to vomit but not the best. Also my heart rate went up like i had a red bull and i found it easier to concentrate.

I have to be honest i am sceptical about all this herbal tea stuff with respect to alot of the claims i have read. If you are deficient in a vitamin or mineral that the tea/herb provides i can understand feeling better or different. A lot of it feels like snake skin oil claims. I am some what surprised to notice the physical effects i can feel so far. Will be interesting to see if it happens again tomorrow.

If you look up each individual plant/ingredient on the internets, you can't go wrong. If you've heard of it used as a food, you're probably going to be ok 99.9% of the time. Just make sure you're using the right part of the plant!

There are a lot of herbal teas that use ginger, and ginger eases stomach ailments, and can help with nausea i.e. from motion sickness. So don't confuse herbal with "new age" :) Some of them actually work!

Might have to try some ginger with the brahmi then :)

So far most of the effect described of brahmi have been correct. Hopefully the memory one is too :D I feel like i have had a strong cup of coffee.
