The server has been patently evil to me of late (working now, so perhaps I should not slander it too much) |

the site has probably become to active and unequipped for the extra traffic. i reckon the server is being stretched to the limit. lets hope eb can sell a few more systems to upgrade the server. perhaps some donations are in order. even a subscription. or am i ahead of myself? |

a basic server should handle this load. The problem is this antiquated BBS software (no offense anybody) I just don't think it was ever designed to have this many users. KP Shudders at the thought of having to upgrade the BBS though..... |

Not being a Geek, I dont know much, but my speed issues are usually related to modem speed. Could the increased traffic be causing a bottleneck at the interface from the server to the WWW? |

Yeah, even a 750 MHZ server can handle tons of traffic. SQL/mysql might be slowing things down. Which I think could be the case. When I ran the Statistics, which searches everything and generates its data from the data base it took a long time ... Bandwidth and internet congestion can also slow things down, but I'd say BD/processor and or disk speed. If you were in my state I'd donate a server. |

The site is hosted on an external ISP server system..... Have been occasional problems with the site over time.... nearly all have been related to the ISP systems and/or upgrades. As to the general performance of the "internets".... get used to it .... the sheer volume of traffic is straining the infrastructure to near breaking point..... The greatest strain placed on the internet structure has been the exponential growth of all the little numbnuts posting thirty squillion "look at me I'm a star" pictures of themselves and friends on "MySpace" and "Facebook". Couple that with enormous amounts of traffic generated by people chatting with their neighbours via MSN and swapping files..... The enormous amount of downloads from XXX sites.... The even vaster amount of downloads from "peer-to-peer" networks of music and "DVD" sized pirated movies..... It's actually a bloody miracle that the whole worldwide web hasn't collapsed around our knees.... be prepared, I think 2008 may just see it begin to happen... |

Hey I know I'm perhaps another generation Kuda..... But seriously...... what for?????? I don't get it..... Many people live in enough of a virtual world anyway..... what's the point of claiming xxxxx number of virtual friends talking virtual shit about virtually nothing..... Go say hello to someone, wave to your neighbour |

getting a bit virtual are they Roz? Worried they'll do away with their bodies and permanently interface? Maybe we should start an online business, selling 'to your door' delivery of 'pap' and babyfood. We could also maintain the auto dispensers attached to what used to be their mouths. PS Problem is: Too many people hate their neighbours... It's so much easier to be impersonal than to actually get along with the same person on a daily basis |

Exactly my point Kuda, we already are "selling 'to your door' delivery of 'pap' and babyfood. It's called 24/7 TV, Austar, Foxtel, MSN, Myspace, Facebook...... Quote: We could also maintain the auto dispensers attached to what used to be their mouths
Give it a few years Kuda .... Would of course need to wire electrodes to each subject to stimulate muscle activity in order to maintain a general level of fitness and health.... Think about it.... could stack millions into self contained, self sustaining cubilicles.... wired to the virtual world... Solves the housing problem, substantially reduces all forms of pollution, virtually eliminates the need for transport and fossil fuels, reduces, centralises and simplifies all forms of public infrastructure..... Could be utilised to deliver a universal tailored set of knowledge and skills, maintain public safety and law and order, control and nearly eliminate crime..... deliver a universally acceptable and non dissenting set of public values and beliefs for the good of all mankind....... Take the blue pill Neo.... take the blue pill and the story ends. You wake in your bed and believe whatever you want to believe.... Or whatever they want you to believe.... what would you know or care |
