great to see your pics VB, The silvers are cool, and the stand is going to be great. Murray's grow beds are nice eh? The perch seem to like hiding... That's a pretty thick mat of duckweed y9ou have there. Have the goldfish taken any interest in it or are they in the other pond? Stu |

where did you get the tubs and how much did they cost you. I am considering getting some of these to put my barramundi in in a little while. WHat was the price? are they trhe two hundred litre ones? |

Stu - I put 10 goldfish in the black tank (which is the one with the duckweed in it) and 10 in the grey tank. I can't tell what is going on in the black tank because the duckweed mat is so thick. I hope the goldies are still alive and well. There is no way I could tell if tey are eating the duckweed as there is so much of it. I have not been feeding them at all - I reckon they should be able to fend for themselves at this stage, besides which the food would just get caught up in the duckweed. As for the 10 I put in the grey pond, 1 week in 1 had died, but 4 more had mysteriously dissappeared. There are 2 possible solutions here: 1. Birds have eaten them - I doubt this because they rarely rise from the bottom 2. They have decided to mutiny and swim through the joining pipe to the black tank. I think this is most likely eventhough they would be swimming against the current. Will find out on the weekend by temporarilly removing duckweed and doing a head count. Nick - I got the ponds out of classifieds (at seperate times). The black one is bigger than the grey. They are about 400 and 300 litres respectivelly and cost 120 and 70 dollars. They are not that suitable for any serious work because of losing too much water in flood cycle - which is why I have joined the 2 together and will also probably use continuous flow. |

The black one was advertised as being 1.2 metres round and had the price of $500. This included a 200lph pond pump. I rang anyway and identified that it was 1.2m diameter and 60cm deep (on inspection was actually more like 1.15m diameter adn 45 cm deep) and that the lowest the bloke would take would be $300. When I saw the thing there was no way I was paying that, so picked it all up for $120. I use the pump to run the continuous flow on the little bed - so wasn't a bad deal in the end. |

I don't think its so much me having good bargaining skills as the guy kidding himself in terms of value. The pond was not in A1 condition, it has 3 holes drilled in it about 10cm from the top (I have now filled these). As I said, it was advertised for $500, yet when I was negotiating on price the guys says "you know these things are pretty expensive to buy, this would set you back $300 from a landscape shop". I said "well its pretty rich to ask $500 for it then". I used the tried and tested line that my misses won't let me spend anmy more than $??. Generally works a treat. Most blokes can relate  .
