Isn't this a brilliant idea... When I get some land again I'm going to get me one of these. https://www.indiegogo.com/projects/flow ... ur-beehive They wanted to raise $70,000 and within 10 minutes of starting their campaign this morning they were over double that amount. Within 30 minutes they hit half a million, now they are up over 1.5 million.. This is the sort of kickstarter story I like, people that have spent many years researching, they have been working with experts and universities, they have an idea that's groundbreaking and inovative. Not like the "here's a fish bowl with a few lettuce cups in the top, countertop aquaponics system," which is destined for landfill within 12 months. |

I've been watching these guys for a while. Hats off to them. I took some of the money I had set aside to order one of their kits. I just have to find some bees now for December. |

Given the very professional way their campaign has been managed and launched I'm sure that they have their patents in order. I hope so at least. Their invention is SO simple that once you have seen it if you know anything about bee keeping you say "of course why hasn't this been done before". Their invention is going to revolutionize the bee keeping industry. Their invention has simultaneously reduced the capital requirements and labour requirements of apiary. With most the labour intensive hive harvesting tasks eliminated a bee keeper will be able to care for so many more hives. On top of that they will also have increased the quality of the honey because they don't need to heat the honey to extract it. |

That's really neat. This will be really great for beekeeping, simplifies it so much. I think a lot more people might get into the hobby with something this simple to use. |

Absolutely. Even a small cold centrifuge costs a fortune then you need some way of filtering the honey. Honey filters and centrifuges are shortly to be obsolete. |

Actually that is an exaggeration because Asian honey bees will still need this sort of gear. |

I saw it earlier today as well, looked too good to be true. Do the bees need to have the wax removed or something every season? Or something like that? I think I live in too suburban of an area for one though

they say they eat through the wax and refill. i suppose it breaks the wax or something? i dont know how the bees would know the combs are empty otherwise. |

They provide a "comb" with some gaps which the bees fill so that the comb will hold honey. Once the frames are full all the cells can be cracked in a frame at the same time and in cracking them create a channel for the honey to flow through. Its all on their website and in the videos. Their solution is so simple yet so effective. |
