I've taken the plunge and converted to linux. Got a little intel NUC computer and only installed ubuntu on it, my first attempt at going solely linux. I've had dual boots before but tend to always go back to windows. Now I have no choice on my desktop, if I want to use a windows machine I have to unpack the laptop.

I'm not great with the whole "terminal running commands" type thing, does anyone know a simple way of image sizing, possibly by batch, and even better with a right click option to do it. I used to love the windows powertoy which resized images, but now I'm doing it through gimp on the linux and it's a bit of a pain individually opening every image, resizing and exporting. Any gui options?

Imagemagick has command line tools. "Convert" could be used in a batch process to resize all the images. http://www.imagemagick.org/script/convert.php Good luck.

I cant remember the name of the program I used for batch processing, but it allowed you to drop pics into a folder, have them resized, renamed + number (or date or whatever) add a water mark etc etc etc and export them all out to another folder.

I'm on windows at the moment because I'm doing some picaxe programming but as soon as I go back to linux I'll post it.

there are a lot of front ends to image magick, so there's no need for command lines.

I'm just about ready to ditch linux..... talk about windows being buggy, I have up to about 15-16 error messages pop up during boot, every second day I get a freezing of the computer at some stage which requires turning it off manually for a reboot. Common for it to not allow me to eject drives, saying that it's busy, in the end I just have to pull them out.

Been using Ubuntu, Lubuntu for years. Stick with it as there is probably something missing in the setup. Lubuntu is the "light" desktop, once it's in you will see less of the eye candy and more of the system. I haven't seen an error message since don't know when, and I use some pretty system intensive programs,notable Blender (awesome fun!), Freecad ( not as easy as I hoped,) and GIMP( and I have to learn a new paradigm since I come from engineering rather than artistic background.

Oh and Libre - everything for "office" stuff. And Calibre for DTP.

Not into games so maybe I'm missing out!

And if you DO have to use Windows, check out VirtualBox, which runs windows faster than a native machine!!!
