A local bloke has to rehome his little Mangrove Jack juvenile because it is terrorising his other fish (who wouldda guessed? He's willing to swap for some good wood for his aquarium and I have quite a few really nice pieces and looks like we have a deal! I'll miss the mangrove root buttress, hollow logs and other worm/water worn pieces but I get an awesome little Jack so it's a fair trade. Stoked I had today off work now, turned out to be a great thing in the end. I should be picking it up this afternoon.

For anyone unfamiliar with them, here is what they look like when they grow a little bigger, unfortunately even though they are a local fish I doubt it would be happy in an unheated AP setup. I'm not keen to risk it at this stage anyway. And no, they are not mine and I'm not the fisherman. They're just stock images from a google image search.

No, I'm not thinking about that. It's only a 6cm long juvenile and I wouldn't have a clue how to breed them, DPI hatcheries can/do breed them but I suspect it is well above my abilities. They're quite territorial and aggressive towards other fish and I suspect that two mature individuals would probably kill each other. Unless it decides to keep a feeder as a pet for itself it'll be on it's own in the tank. Sometimes predatory fish in aquariums do ignore a feeder and let it live for unknown reasons, I like to think they have chosen a pet for themselves I'll just keep it as a pet and move it on when it grows too big. Either to someone with a larger setup or let it go into the wild. These things grow huge. |

Just checked, they can hit 1.2 metres! So as long as I do my bit it will outgrow anything that I have. They are able to survive full freshwater so I might put it into a friend's farm dam to live out its life after it gets too big. They do prefer salt but have reportedly been stocked into frshwater impoundments too, won't breed there but should make for great fishing! |

I think he's reneged on the deal... Someone else contacted him after me and has tried to coerce him to sell to them instead. Does not look good.
