I was in Manhattan only a few blocks away that day, and had just got done driving by the Towers only a bit earlier.

Mikey,
Yeah, kind of hard to think that so much time has passed since then, and how much has happened since then in the memory of it. They say "time heals all wounds", but unfortunately some wounds seem to fester and scar before they heal.
I hope that everyone who lost a love one in the tragedies of that day are doing well today. There is nothing that any of us can do or say to ease thier pain, but I think we can all understand the loss they feel. May God watch over them and help them with all of the feelings that they have had since that day.
Kevin

Yeah, it's been 6 years, it's hard to believe. It seems like just yesterday.

My dad lost more than a few friends between the towers and the pentagon. It was just a matter of chance that he wasn't at the pentagon and that a coworker of his was.

Is is a very infamous day in history, I think it will take time to heal the wounds as long as the whole world even is given a chance to do so.

Being in Australia it hasn't hit me very hard but I had to turn off the TV yesterday, because of all the documentaries... All day had "Truth about 9/11", "The flight who fought back".... yes I know all this happened, I watched it live on TV... I don't think we need to be reminded all the time. Rather we should honour the people who died and suffered from this tragedy.

I may upset a few people by saying this but, How is the War helping either?
Almost 4000 US soldiers have lost their lives.... Is this a good way to honor this tragedy... *Ducks for Cover*.....

My 2 cents..

ah yeah, that's opening up a big can of nasty worms! I'll just say that I'd rather have soldiers dying in Iraq than civilians in the U.S.

We just moved from Oceanside, a lot of my friends and neighbors are or were over 'there'. But a soldier signs up to fight, especially the Marines, and it's now been six years since we've had a successful attack on U.S. soil.

At the risk of starting a flame war...

To me, it really reinforces the goal of getting aquaponics and other multi-dimensional resources up and running because... (here comes the flame part)...

The catalyzing issue for groups like Al Qaeda was the continued support of what they viewed as corrupt and oppressive governments by the West, and the US in particular.

Yes, there are other issues. Ever since Wahhab starting ranting in the late 19th century, his school has been reactionist and insular. But the spark that has lit this most recent East-West flame is our supporting those governments to provide a reliable and cheap source of crude oil.

On this point, I think I'm safe in this crowd: A diverse energy portfolio relieves our reliance on any one group be it political, economic, or religious.

I guess I'm missing the point you're trying to make. Is it a corrupt government referene?

This thread started as a sort of commentary on remembering 9/11.

I DONT want to see it move too far from that, there are other threads to discuss pro / cons of foreign policy, but the anniversary of victims deaths is probably not the best time

This is such a horrifying concept peashoots that frankly I'm not even going to comment further...

Tamo ... "reactionist and insular.".... coupled with self interest and greed (oil supplies etc).....

As per my post... have we actually progressed at all individually, collectively... in the name of hamanity in the last 30 years......

I dont believe so, and that is the very nature of reactionaries and reactionary politics.... it's self-serving and benefits no-one but those that sprout it...

What it does do though is provoke reaction... sadly the reactionaries often end up being as rectionary as those that provoke them....

Either way it's counter-productive and leads to immense suffering and loss of human life..... and sorry peashoots, but all human life (even Iraqi) has an inherent value and deserves better

I really do believe that humanity needs a "new rennaisance"
