Seems to me a lot of the guys and gals that breed fancy fish and plants go to extremes ...

their results sometimes are impressive ...

CO2 Generators for example ...

As someone who is not really into "pretty" ... I am thinking ....

for anyone who is into brewing beer and wine ... why not divert CO2 ino a water plant tank via an air stone to dissolve some of the CO2 and encourage plant growth ...

(I would imagine that you would need hard water / buffer to do this ...)

But to have a dedicated exotic tank of rare to grow fancy water plants (that need a CO2 generator ... benefit is rare high cost aquarium plants to sell might be a great way to justify "homebrew" to the wife. :lol: :lol: :lol:

Hic .. now where is the brewers yeast .... :lol:

Johnnie, you are either more experienced than you are letting on or have done your research. :shock:


KH (carbonate hardness) PH and CO2 are inexorably intertwined

IMHO more effort than its worth and fraught with problems for an amateur aquatic plant grower wtih a large system. And I'M definatly an amateur TOO :) once again go back to nature...........no CO2 generators there :)

Bizzare was just freshening up on this last night.......u been spying on me?

Can give you a great site for info, but its headache material if you try and read it all in one go. also basic (intermediate?) chemistry would be a benifit

Well ..

I teach chemistry ..

CO2 will increase acidity ...

Calcium carbonate will act as a buffer ...

I am thinking ...

beer maker ... fish tank .. plants ..

Hmmmm ...

worth a shot ... see what happens!


I might try it .. plant only tank!

OH ... one big yabby I kept for display at school kiilled the other over night!

(Lack of room I think!) (I shoud have cooked and eaten him with the others!)

:) It actually gets more complicated than that too! carbonate and bi-carbonate (hydrogen carbonate) and alot of disassociation going on ;)

You will kill your fish gassing co2 into their water. You'd need to drift it down over your plants. Simple burpers on apple cider brews work well. The moment you are outdoors this becomes virtually useless. As it stands the co2 from methods like this is said to be negligable however I think a percentage there that wouldn't have been will improve flowering and fruit setting regardless.

AA, i believe he is talking about submerged aquatic plants, Co2 bubbline is common practice even in planted tanks with fish...................

ah yes - where johnnie said "plant only tank" should have been the giveaway.

Or even "a water plant tank" or perhaps "a dedicated exotic tank of rare to grow fancy water plants" should have given it away.
