When I think of what I was doing at 18-19 years old, then look at some others, I feel a little ashamed...

Like this guy Sam Mitchell, at 18 years old he built his own tricycle using mainly recycled bikes, that he picked up from the dump using another trike that he'd built previously, one of about 4..



Then he build his own solar panels to power the trike..



Then he set off around Australia on a 17,000km journey on his home made, recycled solar power trike, solo, with no support help... He's just arrived home back in Melbourne within the last couple of days.

What an adventure that would have been, took him almost a year all up, averaging 140-160 km a day in some areas but down to 40km in other areas. Got up to about 70kms an hour at one stage but generally averaged 25-30, and he reckons he put in about 25% of the power required with pedaling..

Anyway, some interesting on his facebook page and blog links below, and there's a stack of other stuff about his bike building theory and process on some forums.. Interesting read, you just have to sound things out as you read.. You'll see what I mean..

What a great kid, young passionate people like this fella should be all over the news. Very inspirational.

He'll never get a headline, or even a mention in a newspaper! Unless he broke a speed limit or two along the way!! He's just too "normal" and hard working, and he's not complaining. Wonder what he'll do next? Go to uni ? All power to his left elbow. What an excellent young man.

Wow.... if only i had a kid around here that even wanted to know what a solar panel does, much less build some, and make a trike go with them.......

the kids around here can tell ya all about a X box and the games, but ask one how that x box works and you get a blank stare..........

Inspirational, with the right sponsorship and a bit of money behind him he could do almost anything.
