Should be fine... as long as they don't get bored... and roll down the window and throw beer cans at passing satellites... |

You can download an app on your phone to tell you when it passes. It will be visible tomorrow night between 8:36 - 8:40 in the south, also Friday night, 7:46 - 7:52 starting west moving to the south. |

It's impossible to miss if you are facing in the general direction, and at the right time, even in light polluted cities- it can get to about as bright as Venus, which is prominient in the western evening sky at the moment. Spaceweather.com have apps for Android and iphone that tell you exactly when and where to look http://simpleflybys.com |

I saw it last night, was putting son to bed and reading on here and looked at my phone and thought Bugger it he wont be asleep in time.. 5 min until it was due to appear i swear he was near doign back flips in bed and with 1 min spare he crashed out so went outside with the Mrs and found it, wasnt the brightest thing in the sky but it was very noticeable to us due to speed of movement. |

If you just go outside and spend 20 minutes looking in the sky you would be amazed how many satellites you can see moving in the sky. The first time one moves in front of your eye piece when you are looking through a telescope makes you jump. Seeing unexpected moving things in the sky..... |

This website gives all the satellite observing predictions. http://www.heavens-above.com/ also check out the Iridium Flares predictions, they can sometimes be seen in daylight. The brightness scales are the bigger the minus number the brighter the image. For instance the sun is about magnitude -26, full moon -13, Venus -4, The star Sirius is mag -1, Vega 0 and saturn +1 There are so many awesome sights up there visible even in a set of cheap binoculars. Just check out the moon (not a full moon) with them to see craters and valleys. [rant on]Its such a shame that so much of the night sky is being lost to future generations due to more and more urban lighting pointing upwards.[rant off] |
