If the title sounds like a joke , it is.
Every Friday morning , we go on a bike ride around the river and stop off at Deep Water Point for a coffee and my daughter to play on the slide. And every week I see several council workers cleaning the BBQs. Today we got there at 10am and left at 10.45am and there were 5 guys at the same BBQ the whole time apparently cleaning it. A spray here, stand around, chat, a wipe there, stand around , chat etc.
There are several BBQs at that location so that means it takes probably a full day for them to do it.
These guys probably do more work than the council bigwigs who sit in their plush offices.
Council rates put to good efficient use

Have you seen how long it takes them to empty the bins there? Comedy, but as a CoM ratepayer, I'd rather not be entertained by these clowns.

Damn i was going to say "some", assuming this was about dirty BBQs, but it seems SOME is correct.

The council is probably getting what they pay for.

It doesn't cost the council anything; the money the council uses to pay these "workers" is collected from us ratepayers, so, the question should be, "are th ratepayers getting their money's worth?"

No.

That's the interesting thing about the council, unlike a real business they don't go broke when they do a crap job because everyone is an involuntary customer.

If that was your park and your BBQ, would you keep paying the cleaner if they charged $2000 and took 2hrs to clean it ?

Now what was wrong with all that rant?

Well first the assumption that they were being paid.
then there was the fact that the people who used the barbecue didn't bother cleaning it
then there was the person going for a ride and watching other people work
then the complaint about the bins? who created the mess, why didn't they take it home and dispose of it thoughtfully?

Get rid of the barbecue and the bins, problem solvered. :)

Would you care to rephrase that? It made no sense whatsoever. :)

When I saw the title I said to myself, "5 workers with at least 3 vehicles." So t looks like I was at least right about the 5 workers bit.

In the private sector it would be only one guy to clean all of the bbq's and the toilets in one day and he'd have to drive his own car there.

I have just got in from work, just out of my hi viz shirt and steel capped boots and having a beer.

We moved about 1.6 tons out of landfill (that's in reality 3.2 tons, loading and unloading). We as in one casual worker and 2 volunteers all over 63 years of age.

If you expect me to have any sympathy for people who do not respect their environment, and tidy up after themselves, I am afraid you are mistaken.
If they were all paid workers, and not messing about on a break (that would be around 10-10.30 am) they should be disciplined.

If you wan't someone to change your nappie; don't expect them to be overjoyed at the task. :)

your point?
If I am PAYING someone to change a nappy, whether they like it or not is irrelevant. If they don't like it, get a new job. If they are VOLUNTEERING out of the goodness of their hearts, then that's a different story.
The council happily collects money in the form of council rates to provide these services , it's their job to maintain it.

They were not on break, there were other guys there who were on break sitting on the grass having a coffee.
These guys had a tub with them, in that tub was cleaning gear, no meat no sausages so they were certainly not having a bbq.

I worked for a council for about 4 years and in my time there, we worked bloody hard. I found it really annoying when people would laugh and make fun of the whole council worker thing, "oh, you get paid to lean on a shovel".

I don't have a clue about that council, but we could never get away with things like that at Claremont council. People need to make complaints to their council when they see this sort of action or rather inaction, then butts will be kicked and it will stop.

Oh and councils aren't meant to be businesses SV, I don't want parks fenced off and privately owned, I love public space and being able to use them anywhere and everywhere, whenever I like.. Imagine trying to ride your bike around the river and having to stop to pay tolls along the way as you ride through different privately owned bits? Yuck....
