Is there an easy way to turn up the brightness on my LAPTOP computer screen?

Depends on the laptop and the video card in it......

1. Check the function Keys there might be a symbol of a sun, written in blue. Us the function button (fn) and try those.
2. Is it plugged into power, some notebooks dim when they are running on batteries.
3. Can you see the image at all in low light? It might be the backlight playing up or stuffed. Shine a torch at the screen see if can see an image.
4. There is also a function key that blanks the screen or switches between the LCD and an external screen.

What is the make/model?

Image is good ... just a bit dimmer than usual! .. was a touch brighter yesterday! The difference is not a lot, but enough for me to wish for a tiny bit more brightness.

Any more info on that one?

Acer travel mate .. 4000 Rented from the education department of WA.

If I applied one month later I could have had a DVD burner rather than a CD reader only. I cannot really complain, but in this day and age .. three year computer contracts ... hmmmm ... they are average rather than suoer fast at start of contract ... geriatric after 18 months...

If you only do word, excell, and mundane stuff.. this is not a problem ..

If you do tuff that requires fast ram and fast HD ... video editing and multitracking several music files at once ... is a problem ...

OK ... 20 bucks a month ..

But any ideas regards a brightness control ...

appreciated ...

I reckon the techie sort of "tweaked" a perameter somewhere or other...

Thanks guys and girls.

Johnnie... that model has a ATI MOBILITY™ RADEON™ 9700 graphics card .....

If it's got the correct ATI Catalyst drivers/software loaded... then down bottom right hand corner you should see a red icon with ATI in white lettering....

Right click and select "CATALYST Control Centre"... In "Graphics Settings" you should see a "Colour" option.... just below "3D"

This will allow you to adjust the brightness....

OR....

right click your desktop.... select "Settings" in the "Display Properties" dialogue box....

select "Advanced"...... select "Catalyst Control Centre" ..... etc

Try the second option Johnnie... tell me what it says you have installed...

Try the "advanced" tab anyway... should have some adjustments available unless it's been set to a generic...

They should definately have the blue function keys... Can you see any BLUE symbols or writings on any keys on the keyboard???

They should definately be there.... And on the left side of the keyboard there should be a key with with a blue "Fn" on it....

As Tim suggested, find the "Fn" key, hold it down, now search the blue symbols on the keys for ones that look like brightness symbols, like a small sun...

One of the F (F1, F2.....) keys at the top of the keyboard should have a second function while holding the function (fn) button. We have a shite load of travelmates at work just can't picture exactly what the key looks like.

One should be brightness up and one should be down.

#Finally found the manual - French mind you. But I got the gist of it....

fn + <-- & fn + --> (function key plus left/right arrow) should be a picture of a sun and a black sun.

I found the Fn Key ...

What do I do next my friends?

Thanks guys ..
