Interesting research facility called Biosphere 2 located in Arizona USA. Just wanted to share this with the forum.

Man, I remember that bio-dome movie lol

I worked at Biosphere2 for about 8 months during 1999 and 2000 That was when Columbia University ran it, I was assisting with the Astronomy courses- mainly teaching students how to operate telescopes, CCD cameras, visual observing etc.

Did you get to meet the stars gunnagulla? Thats cool, what was it like in the dome?

The dome and 0.5m aperture telescope, later replaced by 0.6m- which wasn't ready in time for the official observatory opening ceremony, but they needed something in the dome!) was installed when I was there and I did the alignment of the mounting on it. Big expenditure (~US1/4million) for a telescope that didn't get all that much use after I left, I was told, although what's being done with it these days I dont know.

It was very nice to use though, and I often some comet and asteroid observing with it late at night after the students went to bed.

The dome looking structure you can see in the video isn't it though, thats a nice little room above one of the main admin buildings, with great views over most of the buildings on site. Observing conditions were ok, but not great, compared to a proper dark sky site though, due to light pollution from Tucson and surrounding suburbs, with was partly behind the W end (right hand side) of the Santa Catalina Mountain Range, as seen in the video.

Seems to be a few of us "stargazers" on the forum....
