I reckon it would be cool for kids especially to look at the fish.

Good idea with the periscope Mac  I remember someone here making a fish viewer with a domed clear plastic that sat on top of the water. A periscope would be even cooler. |

Wouldnt you still get the refraction? (doesnt know) Just thinking seen as periscopes arent actually meant to look "through" water. |

Thanks SolTun and Charlie Yavimaya - Yes I was thinking the same thing so I thought maybe if you put a piece of glass over the part that will be submerged it would work? Then it's like having goggles under water but there is a periscope so that you can be out of the water? I dunno - any physics experts? Edit: I think it would work if the mirror that is below the water line is water proofed behind glass. If the water can enter the periscope then refraction would occur and the periscope would no longer function as it is intended. Edit 2: Actually refraction would still occur with the water proofing but it would not render the periscope useless. Instead it would just be like looking through water from the surface only the water proofed periscope enables one to look at the fish from a point of view below the water line. Kind of like from the point of view of a fish. (I think) Stick a couple lights on the outside of the periscope and you can then look at the fish at night as well. |
