I noted with delighted interest Jeff Atwood's latest blog post: http://www.codinghorror.com/blog/2013/0 ... n-kit.html For those of you who don't know who Jeff is, he's the guy behind "Stack Overflow", the site that basically guarantees to give you the best answer to a computer-related question. So now he's trying his hand at making forum software. This fills me with a frisson of excitement, because as we all know, forums are the way to connect with people all over the world who share our love of things weird, wonderful, and crazy. In fact, Jeff puts it much better than I could do: Quote: These communities are incredibly passionate about incredibly obscure things. They aren't afraid to let their freak flag fly, and the world is a better place for it. So now he's built a system to let us get past the humdrum problems of storage space, issues with image size, multiple login details between forums, the list goes on. He's built a better mousetrap, while still allowing our community to talk amongst ourselves. In fact, he's actively encouraging it! So who's in? |

Spent a fair bit of time going through it last night and today, I don't know that it would really replace the type of forum use we have here, need to research more.. Looks very cool for what it does, I'd like to try it out to really get an good idea of the full functionality but they reckon it won't be available for 6-12 months yet... Bugger... |

Currently it can't really be used without buying the dedicated hosting package they offer, or by buying an actual web server (either virtual or hardware). It doesn't play well with other methods (no IIS or Apache), so you can't install it in a typical web host. |
