due at 22:12:43 AEDST tonight The Mayan apocalypse: What it is (or probably isn't) What it actually means: The Mayan Calander will end on the 21st of December 2012. No Mayan prophecy has ever actually predicted the end of the world, but this hasn't stopped people from forming their own conspiracies. Just time for a new calender, is all. How it will happen: The top three suggestions are death by solar storm followed by starvation, the collapse of financial systems and disease, death by comet unseen, death by planetary alignment. Should I be worried: Absolutely not. That said, given the increase in natural disasters over the years, it doesn't hurt to keep a small, sensible amount of supplies so that if your town floods you don't have to fight off panicked masses in the supermarket. enjoy your day peoples... |

I going to a Christmas/end of the world party tonight. It should be interesting, as these people are always discussing and theorizing whether they are ready for "when the zombies come" Hollywood style. I'd say that situation is pretty close to the post apocalyptic panic that would ensue if the world ends in the first way nominated above.....at least after two weeks of global starvation, once humans get over our subjective compassion for each other. One of my colleagues sent around a Christmas memo saying something like "merry Christmas......it been great working with you all this year, but when we are fighting over the last piece of bread next year, I will be showing no quarter." |

Do you know.... That Doomsday predictions have been going on since 2800BC, since then there has been another 21 predictions from various individuals over the years although seem to be more frequent with the last 50 years. Obviously none of these have came true.... wow, really you say. Yes really. The worst one for it was ol' Harold Camping who made a total of 6 bogus predictions, 4 of these were in 1994 and the last 2 were in 2011...... get a grip Harold!! But wait!! theres still more to come! After we survive this load of bollucks apocalypse this arvo there are a few more to go.. 13 November, 2026. 13 April, 2036 and another one from Nostradamus in 3797. Im not totally sceptical though.... there is one prediction that is unavoidable. Around the year 5,000,000,000 the sun will eventually consume all its fuel which then it will swell and engulf earth and its planets in a fiery dance of doom. All this is pretty scary I know but dont worry because scientist say we may not make it that far anyway because in a billion year from now the sun will be so freakin hot, earth will be uninhabitable. Good time to invest in air conditioning and set up your childrens, childrens, childrens, childrens etc etc etc.... blah blah blah |

The Mayan calendar doesn't end today.... it just rolls over/resets... for the next 14th b'ak'tun of the Mayan Long Count Calendar... each b'ak'tun is approximately 400 years... (20x20 - the Mayans have a base 20 numbering system) |

DrLuke wrote: "when the zombies come" Ooooooh! I hope it is zombies, makes it more sporting But what is the best way to dispatch a zombie? Hollywood seems to think destroying the brain with blunt force trauma or shooting is the way to go but zombies are supposed to be brain dead already so that does't really make any sense I would think that decapitation or incineration is the way to go

Yea I seriously hope its zombies too. Ive been watching that 'walking dead' series on TV and I think I could take them on. What I dont understand is why they dont jump on a boat, go out to sea and set up an AP system on it? Im assuming zombies cant swim? You would prob have to come back to shore to get other supplies now and then like fish food and beer but it could be do-able.

I am definitely up for pumping 12 guage rounds into the walking dead as well. The question is 00s or no 4 shot ? I think my non firearm weapons of choice would be a sword or maybe a nice balanced tomahawk in each hand. You could get some serious zombie chopping done like that. As cool as it looks, I don't think using a chainsaw would be very effective, unless done in some sort of choke point where you had to hold off a whole bunch and you were not surrounded. It would also be a bit dangerous with your loved ones close by.. I think the boat idea is great, then you could find a decent sized island, make sure it is purged of the undead and start afresh.. Maybe Mrs SuperVeg would be keen to have more than 2 kids if we had to repopulate the earth |

Im pretty sure they stopped 'bottling' milk in the 70's Rupe. Id definately go for samari sword for close combat and maybe a couple of silenced .45's. Long range I think a .243 woud do the job nicely or even a .222 for a bit of fun. I agree and think the chainsaw would be too slow and its extra weight that you dont really want to be lugging around. The island idea is great. It could possibly become a war zone if others find out about it so it prob be worth stocking some heavy artilery just in case |

Without it keeping us tidally locked things are likely going to be bad for humanity. I'd build a fence too, you never know when they'll come walking up out of the lake/ocean. |
