Barra can handle up to 35ppt salt water. It's part of their breeding cycle too from memory.
As an aside, I used to work on that farm about 16 years ago...

Had my elderly Dad down for Xmas... deaf as a doorknob and broke his hearing aid second day here.... or is he... Has a habit of sending me newspaper clippings about things he thinks I'm interested in and while I thought he probably hadn't heard a word I said... Today in the mail was a clipping (04/04/07) from the Courier Sunday Mail headlined... "Rain blamed for barra kill"... Apparantly 'Bluewater Barramundi', the only offshore caged fish farm in Queensland based off the coast from Cardwell in the north of the state (Townsville way)... suffered a fish kill of over 60 tonnes of barramundi ($300,000) due to a soil-based bacteria (streptococcus iniae) brought on by recent floods. Saddened to hear about the losses.... but got me wondering ... Just how much do people hear???.... I SAID ARE YOU REALLY DEAF YOU OLD COOT ....LOL |

Interestingly .. in the article it quotes the DPI aquaculture manager as saying that "the lower salinity levels in the water (caused by the flooding) have made the fish more susceptible to the disease".... Kind of interesting when you consider that the first thing suggested for treating fish in AP for either disease or stress is "salt".... Raises the question should those doing barra maintain a "salt" level in there systems?? From fishing expeience some of my best barra fishing has been done in very fresh waters and often in dirty waters with flood fresh in them??? Then there's the other side of the coin... hard to get bigger barra than the brackish waters of the Fly River PNG..... Aint nature diverse and wonderful? |

I have the mother in law staying with us I think hearing at that age is "selective". We have a newborn screaming her head off and she chooses to ignore that (somehow) and answer the phone. |

Bit like a woman that used to work in the same place as me who had a seeing eye dog and was allegedly blind. Now and again she was caught out waving to people from 30 or 40 meters away. |

plumber at local trade link predicts massive problems in the bay when the drought finally breaks due to all the salts and other CRAP being pumped onto lawns from washing machine wash cycles being re-dissolved and going into storm water..................... Anyone married (or almost) to an OK develops a finely tuned selective hearing to the point where you are tuned into the words "you're not listening , are you?" and the brain quickly accesses the ears 3 second buffer to prove that you were listening (but not)
