A dang rat snake ate one of our young turkey's today and killed a young gosling. We had them inside until yesterday, and put them in this cage in the coupe so they could get used to their new home without getting bullied by the other birds. Well that was not the best idea, because it gave them no where to run from the snake.

Ouch! I accidentally found that one way to trap a snake is to cover a fruit tree with bird net. When I checked on a fig tree, I noticed a not very nice smell in the air. I later discovered a dugite tangled in the net, it had entered through one of the openings and couldn't get out. The skin was damaged and it later died. Another was discovered having met the same fate. I think that all you need to do Helomech, is to cover the wire cage with bird net, if it is really fine the snake won't even be able to enter

Thanks guys, I am sure it came in through the chicken door. There is no way to stop a snake when the chickens are allowed to free range. If these where not stuck in that cage they probably could have gotten away from it. But we where trying to get them used to their new home. |

Shade mesh is preferred over bird netting. Shade mesh can't be climbed, and bird netting gives them a slow, painful death. |

Yep, thats definitely a snake trap. At least we learn by our mistakes
