Depends where you put the "brackets"...

It could be 0, or 13...

what brackets?

The brackets which define the order of operation...

Post subject:  Re: Maths question

That's the point, there are no brackets.
It's down to operator precedence.
Each + is evaluated first, the last + 1 * 0 is evaluated as 0, as the * takes precedence over the +
All the maths I've been taught and all compilers (that I have ever used) work this way.

There are no brackets Rup. There doesnt need to be any brackets to define the order of operation. You could add brackets that would change the order of operation and have the same result, but you could also change the result.

BIMDAS tells us that do the * operation first, then the + operations then the - operation.

That's BODMAS...

B - Brackets first

O -Orders (ie Powers and Square Roots, etc.)

DM - Division and Multiplication (left-to-right)

AS - Addition and Subtraction (left-to-right)

Post subject:  Re: Maths question

No it doesn't, it tells us to go left to right first, but with */ higher than +-

Post subject:  Re: Maths question

VB and 4 ansi C compilers all say 13, that's good enough for me :D

But that's an assumed "bracket".... if you just process it left to right, without precedence... then the last operand is a multiplication of the sum (addition and subtraction) of all the numbers before hand... (in itself an assumed bracket)... multiplied by 0.... therefore the answer would be zero...
