I was surprised to see Wilson sugegst that 20kg/1000L... might "seem high to backyard" aquaponicists... Considering we've suggested about 30kg as an upper limit... and even more so when Murray, and many here... suggest up to 60kg/1000L... or even the dated, and hopefully throughly refuted 1 fish/10L.... |

Going on other figures of how much food the surface area of your total media can handle, 20kg of fish is as high as I can go with 1500L at 1% feed rate. So many ways of looking at it eh

Personally Mantis... i don't think most should... or need to (for the sake of plant growth).... go any higher... I don't stock client systems higher than that.. for at least the first 12 months... and not beyond 30kg/1000L afterwards... I think Wilsons "sizing formula" is a very good tool that people would benefit from understanding and using... |

Yes, I see now how there are so many HSM's when fish get to near eating size and they will eat all thats given, and whammo My tropical fish all grow to size, even the fry born in the tank with no extra feeding. Knowing how much fish food your growbeds/filters can handle comfortably and not going above that is a good thing , me thinks |
